I had to bury The Bobcat today. He was a huge male cat that looked like he swallowed a grapefruit his neck was so thick with muscles. Fighting scars all over him. If Bobcat was in the mood you could scratch his forehead, then he would bite you if you quit.
He just came in from his nightly rounds at the ranch today and just layed down and died. Maybe he got caught boinking a jealous cat's wife. No visible injuries. He was a ranch walk-on. There will be more.

That was a big hole. I took me a couple of hours to dig it. The since we have predators running atound I covered the fresh dirt with river rock the size of baseballs and small footballs' like the do in the cowboy movies.

Sorry to hear about Bobcat.
He sounded like a pretty cool cat.

We just buried one of ours about a week and a half ago too Steve.
We took her to the vet for testing of a seemingly minor issue, only to find out she had a terminal disease so we put her down.
Hurts, because she was full of life still but the vet agreed it was the best decision.
We still struggle with how all that went down so fast that day.
She would have been 8 years old this September.

We had all the kids over last week to bury her in the back yard together. She’s been in the family since a kitten.

When I was a kid we had a scrappy old male cat. He took on every dog and cat in the neighborhood just because he could. Even the neighborhood boxers started avoiding him. His ears were all chewed up and I’m sure under that fur he had tons of scars. He was a sweet old cat to the family though. The strangest thing was our bus picked us up for school at the bottom of the street, probably 5 or 6 houses away. He would follow along behind us walking down to the stop like he was covering our six. But the strangest thing was sometimes when we returned in the afternoon, he would be sitting there like he was waiting for us and then he would follow us home. One of the oddest animal things I remember from my childhood. RIP Bobcat.

Sorry to hear about that. Big ol' mouser toms keep the riff raff out. It's cool when they are comfortable enough to hang out with you and not be 100% wild.
Farm cats are different, they choose to be a friend. They don't have to be. Sad when time catches up with them, their rough life usually means they don't see north of ten years like most house cats can. Doesn't make it less sad when their time is up.
Good on you for protecting him after his years of service helping you out.

Bobcat's description reminded me of a big Yellow Tom that roamed in my neighborhood years ago. He was a fat old guy named Dicky. He was friendly to everyone that didn't challenge him. My buddy was visiting one day with his Doberman and Dicky was walking through my back yard. My buddy opened the patio door and told the Dobi, "Get the kitty!" She bolted out the door and down the steps after Dicky. He was too fat to run so he sat down and waited for her. She was a little bewildered since she was used to cats running from her so she made a couple laps around Dicky until she got too close and he pounced on her ripping at her face with all four claws. She came back wimpering with her tail between her legs and her face bleeding. My buddy wanted to borrow my shotgun, but I told him it was his own fault since he was the one that started it. I don't know what ever happened to Dicky but it cost me a friendship. It is tough to lose Friends and pets but time does heal.
RIP Bobcat.

Sorry to hear about your kitty. Animals become family members so it hurts when we lose them.

Sorry for your loss. Losing pets is one of the worst things. He sounds like a good cat
