I have had this car 32 years. Just got it back on the road after a long restoration. I just drove my daughter in the homecoming parade in it. That was probably the best day I ever had with the car. I don’t need to sell it but I have been thinking about it. College bills are on the horizon and all.

I don’t know what it’s worth so I thought I would ask here. It’s a 1970 Plymouth Satellite that I made into a Road Runner clone. 440/auto and it is rust free. I never got around to putting a radio in it and I’m not impressed with how the windows fit but I don’t ever put them up and I don’t listen to the radio.

Nice car.
Its probably worth half of what you have invested, maybe less.
22k give or take would be my guess.

On a different thread a nice 69 Coronet 'vert with only brought 19k.

Our cars are basically worth whatever somebody will pay for them and a lot of it is timing and running into the right person at the right time. You said it had a 440, what drivetrain, color and options was it born with? It makes a big difference in value. Also in terms of value, the car may very well be worth more as a Satellite than a clone (tribute) or whatever you want to call it these days. I am certainly not an expert on your particular car but if you want to share the vin/data plate info it would help to access value

If I could find one for 22k I would buy it myself. I always wanted a hard top for a daily driver. I always wanted to do a 6 speed modern hemi swap. That would be a nice ride for daily use!

I found a hard top roller but the guy wanted 6k for it. Having done the work I know that is a nonstarter.

I’m a tall guy and the b body’s are the only cars I ever fit in well.

Sweet ride....I would ditch the clone and go back to a sat....b body verts in any model are rare.....22k IMHO is a “give it away” price.....its worth more...

Crap these days a full good paint job with body work costs that and more

Slim, you really want to sell it and deal with some fool offering you 20 grand? Facing college tuition is a daunting task. Depending on were your child is planing on attending your car might not even cover two semesters. Ive been were you are, three times and i thought id never see the light of being debt free. If you have to part with your car, just dont give it away. Best of luck!

Looks like 22 is about right but maybe plus a bit for the engine and hood.

if it was a factory 383-4, then minus a bit unless you still have the original block.

you posted like 4 times here....hard to believe you are real

Honestly I was just asking what it’s worth because I don’t know. I agree that for 20k I will keep it. At this point the car isn’t costing me much. It’s the first car I ever bought and I never could bring myself to part with it. If it was worth more I would think about it but at 20k I would rather have it to drive from time to time. I appreciate the replies.

The simple valuation tools and especially hagerty mean Zero....this isn’t Walmart

As bill said above it is whatever someone will pay for it and a matter of shooting high to get a low your happy with

As to the clone thing. I never liked the trim that ran down the side of a Satellite. I would always snag myself when I washed it. I also liked the tail lights of the road runner better. Once you change those things the hood is the only other thing left. I did the car for me.

Last year I sold my motorcycle because it had become a place to store a dead battery. I had to use a jump to start the Plymouth yesterday.

I haven’t driven mine in over six months.....but my situation is different....

It is your car and you built for what you wanted.....no problem there....it all boils down to what will make you happy about the car

If you end up having to sell, I would price it at 32k and that gives you enough wiggle room to be able to get what you need out of it and make the buyer happy because he got you down on the price...just my 2 cents

First off, beautiful car!!!! Yes I'm biased (see my avatar). As for what you can get for your car, what other members have mentioned has some validity, but usually there is an intrinsic ceiling to a cars value on the open market. In our hobby, restoration costs don't dictate a realistic selling price. How many times do you hear/read members suggesting to buy a finished car instead of doing a restoration because it's cheaper. Very rarely can you recover your restoration costs when selling a car.

All that being said, the fact that it is a Satellite does lower the value of the car compared to a Roadrunner, even though it is basically the same car. Surprisingly too, since there were fewer 70 Satellite convertibles made than Roadrunner convertibles.
I am on my third 70 Satellite convertible. I sold my first one 25 years ago ( it was my college car), bought my second 15 years ago for $9k (all matching numbers), sold that one 8 years ago for $18k to buy a 70 RR, then bought my current one less than 2 years ago for $22k, also matching numbers. The previous owner did a semi RR tribute when he repainted the car about 10 years ago, removing the Satellite trim and putting in RR tail lights, but no bulge hood. I like that look much better anyhow so I was very happy. There were a few trim pieces missing on it that I have been able to source through the forum.

You mentioned a long restoration on your car. How extensive was it? A total rotisserie job? everything removed rust treated/cut out? Original metal? That does add value to the selling price, but nowhere near what the actual cost was. Do you still have the original 383? Is the transmission the original 727 ( i assume a 727 with the 383, my last 2 were both 318's with 904 trannys)?
Does it have an 8 3/4 rear or the 8 1/4 that the 318's came with? All of these things add value.

My estimate based on my experience is that your car to a non-emotionally attached buyer is mid 20's. I am not that buyer and would pay more for the car based on my personal fondness for 70 Satellite convertibles. If I was in the market for one I would probably pay closer to 30k based on the extent of the restoration and the 440 you put in. But that's me. My opinion is that since you have had the car for 32 years already and did all that work and spent all that money on it, DON'T SELL THE CAR !!!!
You will probably regret it and have a very hard time replacing it. That's just my opinion though and I don't know your personal situation. You have a beautiful and very unique car. Good luck with whatever you decide.
