I have a 1968 Sport Satellite that has a 440 dropped in it. right now it has 2:76 gears. looking at replacing them with 3:23 sure-grip. I'm looking for an improve hole shot and occasional burnouts while still having a car that will be tolerable at highway speeds. will there be enough difference between these ratio's or should I be looking for 3:55's. appreciate all input

yes, there will be enough difference in those gears...

3:23 is very good, which is .049 increase in ratio, about 500 RPM. Mileage will be the same.

You will notice a difference between the two, however having run just about all the different ratios through the years I think that the 3:55's are ideal for what you are describing. (I do keep 3:91's in one of my cars just for raising hell every now and again) :)

You'll be increasing your effective torque by almost 20%, and the 3.23 was the usual rear ratio for a road runner. You'll get a good boost out of that change.

2.7's are excellent highway gears. 3.23's are tolerable. 3.55's are on the edge of a true dual purpose gear and anything deeper is for raising hell on the city streets and the track!

Have 3:23's on my 67 R/T. Revs are 2700-3000 at normal freeway speeds-a little high but tolerable, and the ratio is the perfect blend for streetability and hi-perf. Have often though about going to 3:91's, but having had several cars with that ratio, all I have to do is recall what a misery they were on the highway-the pain ain't worth the slight improvement during the seconds they work best.....

I have both 3:23s & 3:55s I love my 3:23s at 75 mph. The 3:55s make me wonder if I'm in 2nd at 75-80 but the 3:55s are way more exciting.
