Sounds like what 'live oak' does....the grain is wavy and hard to split and burns slow in the fireplace. Large LO smokes but smaller logs do ok.This was about 24 inches wide at the base. Some of those pieces were so tough to split so I had to cut with the grain into the log with my chainsaw to get the splitter to go through. Lots of strands kept it together even after being split…I have a shed full of Cherry, White oak, Maple and Ash from jobs I am currently burning now.
