Are you talking about a steel mesh bridge deck? Those things will make the bike 'swim' even when it's dry!

I think so.

One of the very first times I rode a bike out on the road, all by myself, I came up to a steel deck bridge spanning a moderate river.

Not at all confidence inspiring.

Glad there was no one following me, as I sat there for a few minutes and then proceeded just fast enough to keep my balance.

I love metal grates under a motorcycle. Just let it "walk", it'll come back. And the view through the decking can't be beat! I crossed Big Mac years ago and spent most time looking at the boats on the water underneath! My (now ex-) wife was beating on my shoulders and trying to get me to move to one of the paved lanes...nope, this is too fun!
