I actually used a punch and 5 lb to break them loose... then the spanner.Nice. Both of my trim rods don't have anything on the ends. I couldn't get the tool with just two prongs to stay connected well enough to break the cap loose. I ended up getting this tool for about 20 bucks and it worked great.

Took off doing much today but went to see if the USS Kearsarge would be close enough to shore....but passing by the Seabrook Shipyards, I saw that it was docked there! Drove in but the public wasn't allowed to get very close to the ship and couldn't take pics either. It was probably 200 yards away but the side view was full. Pretty impressive. Probably could have taken a pic at the entrance which was about another 100 yards but didn't want to take the chance. And man, the truck traffic is horrible there and along hwy 146 heading north road construction just makes matters worse.
