Given how crappy and unstable the stock bumper jacks are not to mention the damage they can inflict on the chrome I plan to carry a better jack in my trunk.

Curious as to what you guys are using for emergency roadside tire change.

Thanks

I keep a small bottle jack and a piece of three quarter plywood to give it a wider base in a duffel bag
Can you use a bottle jack to lift both rear and front to change a tire? What size are you using and what lift points would you use?

I carry a scissors jack in all my vehicles.

WAY more stable, and effective than a bumper jack or a bottle jack (unless it's got a big foot).

The one for my Renegade is on the pinch weld, so I have a 2x6 for underneath it.

I buy them at yard sales, thrift stores, junk yards, etc.

I've never paid over $15.

A few are convertible to work on pinch welds, or flat spots. I like those.

I don't have any, but I've also seen 12v lighter socket powered ones.

4 ton. Yes it will lift it high enough. Lift point same as you would a floor jack. Frame rail. As I said , I keep a nice wide board with it for stability. I have seen many a scissor jack with small base so if you go that route be careful and use a wide base/ platform.
If your car is high off the ground , you can go with an eight ton or use blocks.

If i carried one it would be a newer car scissor jack with a good pad welded on... I have my '62 jack sitting in a corner somewhere.. but no spare tires.. meh

Scissor jack from an '83 New Yorker.
Or any wrecking yard scissor jack. Many times with a flat tire you may not be able to get a bottle jack under it. Don't forget the handle !

I know my Dad always carried a small floor jack which was very useful. For my 66 Dodge all I have is the bumper jack but then I won't be changing the tire because the spare is the original from 1966 in the trunk!
