Is one a clutch type and the other a cone type? Which is which?

Yep. The one that you can see a spring inside is a cone type. The other is the clutch type, more desirable.
It looks like the clutch has a lower (higher numerically ) gear.

You really don’t want either one of those, so I’m sending you my info so they can be sent to me. Lol!

Stick with the clutch type and yes, you can use it in any of the cases, 741, 742 and 489 along with the gears.

Yup, by the width of the ring gear I'm gonna guess the cone (spring) is a 2.76 or a 2.94

and the clutch is probably a 3.55 or possibly a 3.91

Clutch is 3.55 and cone is 3.23. Thanks to all. Good going on the ratios.

Do they make good doorstops?
