First model year sport satellite was sold to the public?

1967 had a RP23 but it was just the Satellite model same as 1966.
RH was the Belvedere 11. In 68 the B11 model was dropped and the SS was introduced.

What was the first year for the 4 door Sport Satellite? :)

1968 as well. I think wagons as well with woodgrain.

All the coolest **** started in 68. The big bang of the muscle car era. Too bad it really only lasted 3-4 years. :poke:

1966 I had a friend that had a 1966 Sport Satellite. I still have the rear seat insert-nameplate somewhere.

1966 the "Satellite" was the top of the Plymouth B body line and had "RP" as the first VIN characters.

Same for '67.

In 66 and 67, "Belvedere II" used the "RH" VIN.

For '68, "RP" was used for the Sport Satellite.

For '68 "Satellite" got "RH" VIN.

"Belvedere" was still around, but was "RL"

Changed again in '71.

"Satellite" kept moving down the price class line.

Sebring Plus was now "RP"
Satellite Sebring was now "RH"
...and plain "Satellite" was now "RL"

No more Belvedere.

Yup. RL was the Belvedere from ‘68-‘70. Were there ‘71 RL21’s? I’m not as up on the ‘71 forward.

The Satellite model started in 1965 and was the top model of the Belvedere line. By 1971 it was the low level base model of the what is now the Satellite line.
2-door models except Police models.

I'm pretty sure they did.

My 73 is an RL with fixed rear side windows.

In 1971 the Satellite was a RL23 h/t that could optioned with the A93 "Couple package".
In 1972 the Satellite became a RL21 couple model.
H/T has moveable quarter glass
Coupe has fixed quarter glass.

I has this RR clone thing that was a 1971 RL23 w/ A93 coupe package with fixed quarter glass.

Interesting.

No RL in '71?

learning.

I wonder if it had to do with the fact that the actual body is the same, unlike the 66/67 cars where the roof and doors were completely different.

Maybe the factory thought there would be no call for a fixed window model.

Given the minuscule difference in parts, plus the extra tooling and stocking costs.....

On the 71-74 body tooling there is no structural difference regarding strength, as you hear the rationale for buying 21 body cars for use in high HP racing.

The difference is less on the 68-70 cars than 66/67, but it's pretty much zero for 71-74.

Kind of funny because we are having the same conversation about the Valiant/Scamp models over on FABO.

I just learned yesterday that there were WP41 1968 Coronets. I haven’t seen an RP41 1968 “Belvedere”. Does anyone know of one?

No more 2-door sedans in 71. All sedans were now 4-doors. Coronet and Satellite Custom.
I parted a rusty ‘69 Belvedere back in the 80’s. The only difference between it and the the hardtop appeared to be a welded in post. The doors are the same save for the glass. And of course it doesn’t have the rear window winders and corresponding door card.
