I've owned a LOT of cars throughout life. I have never researched a car to the point where I know most of the VIN number before I even see the car. That's not WEIRD is it?

Barbee - That's EXACTLY where my mind is. I'm happy to pay a fair price for a car and I can assure the owner his car will have a happy safe home until I'm dead. The problem with that whole scenario is that I simply don't know of anyone ready to let go - hence the purpose for this post. Hopefully someone ready to sell will see it and make contact. I appreciate your thoughts. My hook is in the water. Now it's a matter of time...

It's not just wing cars. It seems that finding all good quality 68-70 B-bodies priced fairly are few and far between. The good ones are in the hands of hobbyists or collectors and they aren't letting them go right now.

I think it was this car, can't remember, but there is a master list of Superbird VIN numbers and it was this one (or another R code Superbird) which was listed as destroyed. So the question with this car is just really what is it? This is the "hair" I was talking about.

To the OP, if he has interest, I am sure you could find that Superbird VIN number list and do your own investigation.

I think I remember that car. If this is the same car, it’s most likely a rebody. I did ask if there were any pix of the body #’s.

Funny Bird story. Back about '95 I had a good bud 500 mi away that always had something HE said I needed. He was a hemi E body guy but was always dragging something home. He had the hots of superbirds. He had 3 superbird rollers, all needed something like a wing,or fender or ??. Take my pack at $5000. I had 2-3 complete 6 pac engines but I just did not have any love for them!!
About that same time,I had another Mopar bud that had a really slick bird. He had just built a new home. He got the bird in the garage but there was almost 2 inches to spare!!!! Said he never though about such till then!! He was an engineer. Go figure!

LOL! Oh man, I've had plenty of dealings with engineers....especially newbies but there were a few oldies that were pretty contentious about what they were trying to accomplish at work. One brought me a blueprint for a shaft that had a bearing fit that was close to being in the middle of the shaft and was smaller than the coupling fit that was outside of it. That same blueprint made me look at things a little harder before taking it and and saying "I'll have it done before the day is done". Seemed to be a common 'first' project for the newbies. The 2nd time to see that same print was a couple of years later and being it looked familiar I looked at the bearing fit size first thing and handed it back to the new newbie and said 'can't there from here. Bewildered look on his face I just said look at your bearing fits. After a few minutes he was still scratching his head so I showed him. Don't know if the company was trying to catch a machinist along with an engineer or what.

Yep. I don't think that there is much doubt that it's a re-body. Still I'd like to own it as a hotrod and not be fussed about all the problems associated with its collector car status, which, charitably speaking, is ambiguous.

I seem to recall it being for sale for $195,000 (?) or $250,000 (?) or something like that.

No. I’m not a buyer. But I guess I should assume that anyone looking at what restored would be worth about a half million would do their homework!

Rebody definition? If the he has photos of the process of repair, straightening car out and replacing panels roof etc. is a plus. Who wants to pay top dollar even it's a good fix? If they just got another car switched VIN plate it's a clone period.

A clone is a clone, a rebody is a rebody and a real car is real. I have no problem with anything legal and honestly represented, but a clone is not worth the same as a real car to me, whether buying or selling.
Just because it basically costs about the same to restore a real car or build a clone, that does not make them worth say the same. But anyone wanting to spend their $$< hey it their $$$$ not mine.

In the description it claims it was “t-boned” and has a road runner door and mid section. Then the rad support and trunk numbers should still match. It also says in one of the pics, and the old sale that Galen authenticated it. OK.
