OK. Just jumped in with both feet. I bought a 67 Coronet 500 with allegedly its original motor... a 383 4 Barrel. Where exactly do I look on the engine to confirm that this is an original motor. Also how do I match that up and determine the build date of the car itself. Many thanks, Clark [email protected]:icon_question:

There's no way to know if it's the original engine. Vin stamping the blocks didn't start till mid 68' all you can go by is the casting date which in your case should be
66 or 67 if your car has a late 67 build date

I would look at the date stamp on the block under the distributer. Then, match it to the projected build date of the car. The closer you are, the more likely it is original. That is as good as it gets.
