Here's an RAF pigeon getting a medal in WWII. It's a real thing.

Flight crews carried caged birds on missions, if they went down and survived, the birds were let go with a message tube attached to help locate the crew.

Took this shot at the Gathering of Mustangs and Legends in Columbus Ohio in 2007 at the old Rickenbacker air field witch use to be a SAC base,durring the cold war now a hub for FedEx and other cargo haulers. The jumbo belongs to Connie Kalitta Top Fuel funny car owner/ driver. At the end of the day a few cargo plane departed the field. (always a treat)The P-51 D in the foreground belongs to word class stunt pilot Patty Wagstaff ,note the W on the tail. One of her planes Hangs in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C. Amazing Lady.
