I've given many a part for that bird to the Warplane Heritage museum in Hamilton.I don't think that version of a Lysander ever went into production; rather it was a modification built during the war to test out ideas. The regular version had a normal tail.

Perhaps, but was still lighter weight and had more total horsepower than the early German BF-109A fighters. Higher wing loadings usually translate into higher top speeds as well.For such a small plane, the thing is pretty heavy.
