So, I have seen upgrades for headlights going through a relay so the power doesn't go through the switch and lights are brighter. Upgraded alternators, regulators, ammeter bypass, etc.... Should the wipers go through a relay also? If so, has it been done? Did a search and found nothing. Thanks in advance.

No. Horns are powered through a relay because of the amount of current that they draw. Some upgraded headlights require a relay because they draw more power than the original wiring was designed to handle. If running your stock wiper motor, you’re good.

Thank you.

Actually the real reason for the relay to horns is the trigger for them is the ground being safer into the steering wheel. Triggered by ground but feeding positive up to the horns.

I never thought of it that way with the grounding. Is it the same with the turn signal switch?

The horn switch located on steering wheel sends negative/ground which takes from chassis itself. Runs through the turning switch, underdash harness up to horn relay ( located down the dash since 70 but on engine bay on earliers ) once relay gets this ground signal, closes circuit to send positive to horns. Horns are grounded through chassis.
