My 2 cents
Get as much load off the OEM harness as you can. Headlights, blower motor, AC compressor. It will help the system
On OEM, DO NOT trigger engine compartment items using the wire that goes to the ballast resistor. Want the steering column and harness to go up in smoke. you'll kill the blue wire from your ignition switch. Run that source to a relay and fire accessories from an independent clean power source.
I build battery cables using welding cable. Good stuff, flexible and easy to route. EPDM is the cable jacket material.
Don't ignore good ground paths.
