You know you’re in the country when…

I guess you can say I kind of live in the country, but definitely not way out in the country like some of you. I would rather live in the country anyway WAY more than the city. Where I’m from, the part of town is called Kensington although the whole town is called Berlin. I live across from an old tree farm and orchard, there are also probably about 6 farms near my house and I sometimes see a tractor or 2 go by. We also have 1 volunteer fire department in my part of town, 1 set of street lights and 2 caution lights.

Occasionally, one or more persons purposely drive across and through ditches with their ATV's and pickup trucks. Sometimes they damage their own vehicle while having fun making a mess.

Mailboxes in rural areas take a beating. That being said, I've found the ham fisted postal carriers inflict more damage than the miscreants that roam the countryside.

This mailbox/post (laying on the ground) was already on its last leg when the postal carrier broke the door hinges. The final death came at the hands of a passing vehicle or trailer.

No M80 explosions or gunshots through the mailbox though.

New mailbox and post are still fine.

You know you are in the country:
When the pub says it is the furthest from anywhere.
When the trees upset your ride.
When the warning signs are real.
When the local cemetery needs attention.
When the hiking trail needs a little clearing.

You haven't seen a Dollar General store in the past 30 minutes.

You know you're in the country when a beer, a fishing pole and a rifle goes with you everywhere.
And you're surrounded by dirt (that's what the beer's for--keeps our mouths clean!)
