I'm new to Mopars and am not sure about what company is good for them. I've started tearing apart my charger (72 318) interior and have replaced the carb and intake manifold. I threw on a 670 cfm holley street avenger, and weiand action plus manifold. Plan on throwing in a cam in the spring but most of my focus is going to the interior and paintjob right now. Any suggestions however for headers would greatly be appreciated. I won't lie i was looking at some cheap ones, Flowtechs. But i do know that you get what you pay for. I also will be running 40 flowmaster mufflers. Please let me know about any good brands and fitmint issues people have experienced.

First off, welcome to the board. As far as inexpensive hedders go, about the best luck I've had is with Hookers Comps or SuperComps. They fit well enough with a minimal amount of "adjusting" (read: get out the BFH) required.

Welcome. You are at an advantage in that you have a B body with an A (read LA) engine. Headers should fit better (easier) than if it were and A/A or a B/B combination.

By the way. We like car ****. So feel free to post pics of your Charger!

Welcome aboard. Best fitting headers are going to be Doughs or TTIs, But they are not cheap. I had bad luck with Flowtechs.

i will have to look at TTI's everyone keeps recommending them. what fitmint issues should i expect with an automatic tranny.

First set of Hedmans on my 440 B-body were defective (they never ground down the welds), second set hit the torsion bar on the driver side. Hookers fit better but even though they say they work with power steering they didn't so I had to keep my manual box. I was working with ceramic coated headers so major "massaging" with a hammer was out. If you have more time than money and don't mind headers that you have to pound on to fit go for price, but if you can afford the TTIs go for it, in my opinion.

Depends on if you have a column shift or floor shift.

it came with a column shift but the person who owned it before me converted it to a floor shift system.

im not a big fan of using hammers but ive been known to do so when its neccesary. so TTI is the best but expensive, what about hooker headers? the regular competition ones

I just completed running a 3" system om my 73 small block Charger. Over the years I've learned that Summit brand headers fit great on small and big block B boy cars. I also used there brand of 3" system and there fully welded turbo mufflers. From the engine to the back bumper I only have about $450.00 in the whole thing.

wow thats a great price.

Blast from the past. Same question again. Never got the headers, due to us not working on the car for the last year that much. We are in the process of buying a house finally which means I can start looking at stuff to buy again. Will be using my tax refund check this year (without the 8k tax credit) to finally get the 72 on the road. So please again recommend a good header for my 318.

Perhaps re reading the thread again, would help alot in your questions answers.

SO, in addition to the below, Hooker Super Comp. @ 1-3/4 tube size fits great. Been there done that. Worked great and less expensive than TTI and somewhat about the same price as Dougs.

I just put on summit brand headers back in september. I chose them because of suggestions from other people. They will need some hammer work but other than that should fit great. A couple of downsides are that the driver side header sits kind of low so be careful goin over speed bumps/train tracks. Also the bolts on the backside of the headers are kind of a PITA because the tubes are so tight fitting by where the bolts thread so you may want to make a little adjusment there. I also bought summit's true dual exhaust pipe kit and would not recommend it. They didn't fit for anything. Ended up having to pay for a custom pipes. I have a 71 Charger 318 auto on the column with power steering
