Green Envy

Thanks LE I plan to take my time there is a lot of rust to remove and repair. This is a true adventure.

An adventure that will turn out great with the enthusiasm and the determination you have in all your posts! This may turn out to be a green envy others have for it when your done.. I for one am looking forward to watching your progress.. Good luck.

I would buy a good Mig welder, (not a flux core) if you do not already have one. You can get floor pans, rockers and other sheet metal from ebay relatively cheap. They are not exact reproductions, but they will work good for you. I did that with my 71 Charger. I would bet when you pull your fenders that the firewall and cowl are rusted as well and that it is leaking inside the car. Mine was the same way and would also suspect your torsion bar mounts are rusted as well. Safe T cap has some nice repair panels that work great! I used their frame connectors and leaf spring mounts that was spot on.
I would concentrate on 1 area at a time and not jump from spot to spot on you build. You will see your progress more and less discouragement from it not getting done.
I put an 8-3/4 rear in mine from an E-body. it will bolt on. the perches are 1/2 narrower, but the springs will pull in that little amount. You WILL need to replace the mounts and ubolts to get rid of the ISO-mount leaf spring set-up on your car. If it was me doing your project, I would get the solid body/frame mounts to stiffen up your car.
Best of luck with the project! We all like seeing the progress of everyones projects.

Awesome Cliff. Glad to see this here too so I can keep track of it. Are you gonna try to find a power bulge hood for it? Those are hellified.

Rob I would like to but they are expensive and out of my range right now.

Thanks and you hit the nail on the head on the rust do far. The firewall has rust and I am also wondering if the cowl should come off? I plan to put sub frame connectors in before any work on the floors are done. Then I will start on the floors. The 8 3/4 rear I am getting is from a E body with 3.23 SG and I am glad to hear it will work.

Right on, Rebel! I dig the name "Green Envy", you certainly don't see many green Chargers out there... looking forward to following your progress on the resto, good luck!

Now that is a sweet Charger

Put your floors and torsion bar mounts in before welding in the sub-frame connectors in. don't rely only on the frame connectors for your structural support. Make sure that you weld your pans to the frame rails and the inner rockers as closely to the way it was done from the factory. Seamseal every seam, and paint it really well. I personally painted the floor like it was the outside of the car and when it was dry, I rhino lined the floor as well.
As for the cowl, Pull your fenders off and see how bad it really is. I was able to cut out the bad and weld in the new without removing it. seam sealed, base/clear etc...
I went to a sheet metal shop close to me and bought a sheet of 16 gauge sheet metal for my smaller patches that I did not buy that were pre fabs.

wondering....
If the inner and outer rockers have to come out as well, how is that preformed?

Just curious... just in case I run across this same scenario, or it's actually the case here...

Good question.

My son got the rear out of Green Envy last night. The only thing that gave him trouble was the e brake cable. He dropped it out and rolled it back into the garage.

Thanks for the update..

Hey Old Tired Rebel man. Looks like that project is evolving. Very cool, I love it when a plan comes together. As I have said before I admire your determination to build this ride. The parts look great and it will be real cool assembled.

I think I might be starting to feel that envy stuff you are talking about.LOL

Keep up the great work and your photos are fantastic.

Thanks trimmer. I still need a lot of parts but for the time being this will give me a good start.
