Slider type Disc Brakes.

I thought it was the other way around...pin until 74, slider after that.

My 72-74 cars all have pins, but my 87 5th Ave had sliders.

Your right, I was thinking the other way round because they slide on the pins LOL.
 
Sliders and pin type calipers used the same rotors. Both size rotors came with either pin type or slider calipers. Both size rotors used the same inner and outer wheel bearings.

Rebel- is your 74 a late build?

I have a service bulitin that says late 74s could have pressed in LBJs.
Does it have those? Maybe they chaged at the same time.

I ran into this issue a few years back when ordering rotors and pads for my 74 charger...

Early 74 used pin type calipers and threaded lower ball joints... mine was a later 74 and has the slider type calipers and pressed in lower ball joints.

Wasnt 74 the only year that used them threaded LBJ's? I liked the idea, wonder why it didnt fly?
 
I believe 71-74 used threaded, and they switched to pressed in late 74.
Probably a time and cost thing.

My service bulitin says something like "until the pressed in procedures and parts are available...replace the entire LCA as an assembly."
 
Do you have the rattle clips for the pin type?? Do you know where to get them?? With out them it will drive you CRAZY!!! I cant find them anyplace....thanks

Have you tried NAPA or Mancini ?
 
yes and yes..also tried united auto hastings car quest and all the other chain store auto parts...Mancini has a lot of my money these last few weeks...I cant even find them at year one.
 
Try Classic industries they are repopping Mopar parts.

they used both into the 80's

i have a set of pin caliper brackets off a 78 cordoba
that will match up with the larger 11 3/4 rotor
and it will all fit under a 15 inch tire.
the pin brackets are not easy to find for the larger 11 3/4 rotor
more often you will find the sliders..

the only rotors you can get reasonably priced now
are the 10.87 and the 11 3/4 rotors.
also those rotors will only fit a spindle
that is 73-up
unless you use an adapter for the bearing.
they do offer smaller rotors but they are pricey
you need the correct caliper bracket to match the rotor size
the type of caliper has no bearing on the rotor size.

i have been collecting parts for a disc brake conversion
so i did a bunch of research before i started matching up parts :grin:
 
That's one of the reasons I don't like that "Disc-o-tech" article.

They want you to cherry pick hard to find parts and mix and match them.
(some if not most, for minimal gain)

Much easier to just get the complete setup off an M or F body (or Cordoba if you want biguns).

In the six junk yards I frequent within 50 miles, I see 10-15 M bodies a year, 6+ F bodies, and about 1-2 75 and up B bodies.

I've seen one 73 and up A body, one 73 B body and zero 71/72 B bodies in the past 7 years!
 
The rotor are two different sizes (10-3/4 and 11-3/4), two bracket sizes(10-3/4 and 11-3/4 rotors) and two bracket styles (pin and sliders for each size rotor)
