removing undercoating

Undercoating

There is no great way to remove undercoating. I have used aircraft stripper and a putty knife... messy. I have used a small propane torch and a putty knife, not as messy and works. I have also put the car on a rotisserie and had undercoating sand blasted off, which is much easier however you will be knocking sand out of the car for a long time... I know I didn't answer your question, but those are the ways i have tried.

I used a heat gun and a scraper. They put out plenty of heat without the flame.....it's a good project for the winter time :)

I've used all the above methods, but I believe I have found the easiest and fastest way.Jack the car up and put a propane space heater under it and keep moving it all around until you see the gunk start to bubble and then strip it off with big swipes of the scraper.Keep a fire extinguisher/garden hose handy just in case and I should add I did this with the car gutted so the carpet and seats weren't a burn factor lol

Remember to wear protective clothing. When preparing to install the USCartool subframe connectors, my welder ended up in the emergency room with a rash possibly from the undercoating removal.

anyone ever soak coating with diesel then pressurewash when soft?
pressure washer was very very slow with 0 tip and 3500psi, cuts concrete but not undercoating

I tried the air needle method and in about 30 minutes I had the whole spare tire pan stripped. Thanks so much R/T for posting the video. Dave

Wow, never thought of that one. Have used one in the past to knock off weld slag from the fixtures at work. It doesn't damage the sheet metal does it?

Sheet metal hell, it didn't even seem to hurt the paint!

There is a company in NY state that makes great pneumatic tools. Can't think of the name. They sell a kit that use wire hooks that spin at about 5000 rpm's. Takes about 95% off. Rember undercoating contains asbestos.
