Here is a partial pic of the engine that he emailed me... He said it is a 318 that was in a 68 B-Body, but he thinks it was tossed in their to go with the car because it wasn't running well. I was thinking about tearing it down and starting from scratch. He said he believes it is a 318 and it comes with a Transmission.

and the trans.

The intake is a late 360 type that can be found on some police 318's. The exh manifolds are also late model. For engine I'd scrape the front of the block below the rt head and read the numbers. The intake is good for mild performance so don't be too quick to throw it out.

Wouldn't that be below the left side head?

As you're looking at the engine it would be under the right head! Or to be correct it's the drs.side!

So would these likely be closed chamber heads with hardened exhaust seats? What would I be looking for visually?

Technically you are correct. I was thinking if facing the engine but didn't clarify

I'd say no on the closed chamber heads. Hard seats for sure but who knows how much hardness will be left after the valve job.

Oh and I had one of these in a 76 ramcharger. Very low compression because mine had 360 heads so don't over cam it or you will be sorry.

Ok, so the deal is in the works. I found out this guy is a friend of a friend. The Mopar world is small. I'm trading a scale model I am building of his 1968 Super Charged Hemi GTX clone. I build very detailed cars and I figure my work will be worth in and around $350.00 when I am done. In return I get the engine, trans, a 4 BBL Quadrajet, a new distributor and an ignition system. I also just received a New rocker arm set up from a friend at church (Gratis). Talk about Timing!

He also has a Holley Carb that he is willing to sell to me at a reduced cost because he's not using it. It's a Holley 650 Double Pumper. I'm feeling very blessed right now.

Well it's been 6 years, and I've only disassembled the engine. Crank and Cam shaft is still in place, but I am nowhere nearer to stroking it. I have a guy interested in it. Is is still worth $300 or should I be asking more? Not a fair answer I guess as it depends on how many are available in my neck of the woods. I'd keep it, but I'm thinking of just freshening up my stock block with a 4 bbl intake and mild cam. I just don't have time as my kids are still young and need a lot of attention. Any suggestions?

take the money and be happy someone is offering something..
the last boat anchor 318 I sold was for a hundred bucks
and it was a complete and good running engine that took me many months to get rid of.
