Backspacing vs Shortened Axle

I am building a 4-Link Mini Tub 1968 Coronet 440. I am looking into doing something along the lines of a street 29x15.50 with a 15x12 rim. Moser Dana.

I'm curious if I should get a backspace rim on a standard axle or get a shortened axle solution and a deep rim.

I do like the deep look on rims (Super Trick or something). But I am not sure what would be best for me here. Looking for opinions / pros / cons... and anything else.

I'm running approx 30x12.5 ET Street radials with about 7" backspace and stock axles on a mini tubbed 69 belvedere. Mine is squatted down pretty low with coil overs and 4 link. Only thing I would say is I have a tough time getting them off and often wonder if having a shortened housing would give me more room to get em off.

Personally i love the deep rim look or Pro~Street as they call it today, i havent shortn the rear end yet but soon, i bought 15x10x15 steel wheel with a 5" back space, mini tube is done,thinking of cal-tracks

They both work, Id narrow the housing if it was me, it looks much better and it is easier to remove the wheel and tire. Mostly it looks a lot cooler lol Plus your wheel choice is much better. Both will work, but style is important. My two cents

no real strength diff in the offset.as stated earlyer,shortned axle will give many more wheel choices and a much improved easy of removal.cool factor is way up with the shortned axle as well.

Thank you for the responses guys! Much appreciated. Looks like I will be doing a shortened rear. In the near future I will be trying to get measurements etc... for that.

Yes MoparCrazy . . . X2 for me on that . . . deep dish is another term that I've heard it called . . . LOVE IT ! ! !

That's the plan for me on my 1967 Belvedere Convertible . . . working on the mini-tubs now ! ! !

My 63 is mini tubbed and wheel lip removed.Rear tire is 16.5 X 31.The Dana is not shortened and it's tight,that why I think you'll be able to go with a larger tire:blob1:

I had 15x12 with 7.5 BS with 30x12.5 slicks and a 4 link on my old RR. Had to un bolt the 4 link to get wheels off. Was a pain, but was cheaper than narrowing a rear.
