71 72 Roadrunner/Satellite Bumper Differences

The first 2 picts are 71's and the last 2 are 72's

The rear bumpers are completely different from 71-72 but the only main difference between the 71 and 72 front bumpers is the 72 has slots for the bumper jack and the 71 does not. the holes for the guards and bumper jack can be welded up and you can have the bumper chromed.

I welded up all of the bumper jack holes in both bumpers on my 72 RR.

Also the rear valances between 71 and 72 are completely different due to the differences in the bumpers. The other differences between 71 and 72 are the side marker lights, the front valance TS lenses are clear on 71 and orange 72, the grilles between 71 RR/Satellites and 72 Satellites are exactly the same but the 72 RR grilles are completely different than 71 and difficult to find, the bucket seat backs and hinge covers are different on the 71 to 72, the rallye dash wiring harness and headlight switches are different from 72-72.

which 72 would have had the front rubber bumper and the rear rubber bumper?rr,satellite,or was that a option?i am gathering up parts for a 72 rr gtx..i have the grill just confused on if i should use the rubber bumpers , would it be wrong to take a 72 ssp matchin numbers 400 bb auto and clone to the rr gtx 440? or should i use something else and sell it to someone wanting a 72 ssp original bb car...any input appreciated ,thanks

The rubber bumper guards were an option on the SS's and SSP's but I am unsure if they were an option on the RR's and I am pretty sure the RR GTX option in 72 would have had just the chrome bumpers with no bumper guards.

As far as using the 72 SSP for a clone project, I personally would not use a numbers matching BB car for a clone especially if it is restorable as is. Look for a 318 car for the clone project.
