Surprise surprise. I have lots of wiring issues.

I work as an AV Tech for my 9-5 so I have a firm understanding of voltage, amps, relays etc. Of course Car work is different, but there seem to be parallels.

I am looking for recommendations on this toasted wiring harness. And in General ANY HELPFUL TIPS ON CLEANING THIS WIRING.
If some asked me to cleanup their AV Rack in their home theater, I would know of a million different widgets and solutions. I am looking for that kind of advice here.

It was the center RED wire that was toasted. Feeds 12v up to the ignition I believe?
(I bypassed it with a wire nut for now)

Do they make generic/universal harness connectors?
I have been unable to find one in any part searches....

below is a picture of the general mess, left by the previous owner.

After hours of staring at the wiring diagrams. I cannot figure out what these two wires, which come to one at the black connector are for.
I put my Voltage meter on it, interestingly. When the ignition key is in the ON position, and the Blinker is active. The voltage fluctuates. Exactly like it is for a Blinker. But all the blinkers have wiring going to them currently.
(This is the left front headlight area, there is an identical wire on the right side, disconnected)

These are upside down pictures of the RED Mechanical Blinker box.
And another Silver relay/whatever-ma-bob?
What is the Silver one?

These are located almost directly behind the cigarette lighter under the dash.

Thank you for reading all of my rambling. I hope I can contribute something of value here at some point. I feel like a pain in the ***, asking a million questions.

Judging from your steering column and fuse box I'm guessing you have a 71-4 B-body.
The red wire feeds power to the ignition switch. That's a common problem there.
The blinking wires by the front park lights probably go to fender mounted turn signals.
The red box is a flasher. The silver one eludes me but will probably come to me around 3:00am.

Well now see that you posted this in the 71-4 section. I just click on todays post tab.

Good guess, It is a 73 Roadrunner!

The wires at the front that go to the Fender mounted turn signals? If they were a Ground, obviously I would not get any voltage fluctuation? So by this logic, it must be a power feed to activate blinking?
(I just have to ask, some of this car electrical stuff is different than what I am used to)

If you look where I jumped the Red wire and bypassed the harness? The Ignition switch side of the harness has a RED and PINK Wire together. I can't find in my diagrams what the PINK wire is for.
I am assuming the RED on the ignition side is tied into the starter relay in some fashion.
But this RED and PINK Nutted together from the ignition is bugging me.

Yes that is power ,not ground to the F/ turn sigs.
Pink is for the EM flashers and should NOT be with the red wires.
There 2 harness to the column. The one with the 10ga red goes to the ignition switch. The other which takes the pink goes the signal cam and flasher switch. 2 separate harnesses and connectors.

The red wire is tapped from the main circuit.

Interesting stuff. Thanks for the quick response time.

i am assuming EM stands for emergency flashers?

currently the emergency flasher are working. I guess because they are pulling power from the Red ignition wire, and thru that the battery?

am I correct in the logic that Starting the engine happens from the battery. And ALL other power is taken from the alternator? (Powering accessories etc, and of course recharging the battery)

As moparmarks has indicated, the Molex connectors used on the ignition switch leads was a problem from the start, so much so the factory replacement switches had additional spade connectors and wire length to the red & black high current leads to by-pass the Molex connectors altogether. Original style replacements are hard to find, any decent quality connectors designed for the high current automotive applications will work. I see the key in switch leads butt connected together that shouldn’t be as well.
BTW, the “silver box” next the turn signal flasher, with three wires, should be the seat belt relay.
