My 1967 Belvedere Convertible Plans and Restoration (aka - Mad Scientist Build)

Little side-tracked, but a lot of progress too . . .

Okay . . . now that I've FINALLY got the transmission figured out - and the bolt in bracket . . . I ended up with this . . .

View attachment 300095

Now it will work . . . and my engineer friend, after seeing it has given me the "BSH approval"* stamp on it's construction ! ! But the "look" of the bracket was too plain and simple for my liking . . . I wanted it to look "nice" and fit into the Mad Scientist Build . . . so the bracket has gone through some modifications . . .

Here's the starting point . . . ( uh, looks pretty ugly - but give me some tome )

sm_transxbracket01.jpg

Added some "lightening holes" and welded in some tubes, as well as added a 1/8" strap to the bottom of the bracket for a little more support . . .

sm_transxbracket02.jpg

Now to get back to my MAG technology ( Mig And Grind ) . . . and get this thing cleaned up . . .

sm_transxbracket03.jpg

Continue the grinding and the clean up - with the faces and the edges . . .

sm_transxbracket04.jpg

So that the bracket will now look like this . . . Now . . . that's what I wanted . . . and I'm much happier with the result ! ! !

sm_transxbracket06.jpg

With the built in drive shaft loop . . . they look pretty good together . . . ( I think so ) . . .

sm_transxbracket05.jpg

Now I'll need to make a couple more of these to tie into the drive shaft loop, and the rear brace that will be the bolt connection for the rear of my bucket seats . . .

sm_transxbracket07.jpg

*Oh . . . by the way, my Engineer friend, and myself include, build things to last . . . so we have dubbed them the

BSH approval . . . for Brick Sh*t House ( as in built like a Brick Sh*t House ) . . . LMAO

Love what you did with that to add the race ready look with the lightening holes Larry.

Without a doubt 100% Fer Racin' approved modification right there!!

Looks pretty BEEFY!!!!!! I don't think it's going anywhere, are all these mods to support the tranny or beef up the floor for a Sasquatch?

Saw this on Genuine Hotrod Hardware website ! ! ! LMAO . . .

Lots of work done today . . . more left to do . . .

Spent some time in the shop working on the brackets that I'll need for under the car . . . here what I got done . . .

Started with drilling the initial starting holes in all of the brackets . . .

sm_buildingbrackets01.jpg

Then went back and drilled them out to the full 1" hole size . . . counter sunk all the holes to give room for weld metal . . .

sm_buildingbrackets03.jpg

Cut all the 1" tubes into 1" lengths to press into the holes . . .

sm_buildingbrackets02.jpg

After all the drilling and countersinking was done, pressed the tubes into the holes . . . you can see the counter sinking in this picture . . .

sm_buildingbrackets04.jpg

Got all of the tubes pressed into all of the holes for each bracket . . .

sm_buildingbrackets05.jpg

Here's a sample of what they're going to look like under the car - this is to support the bucket seats, my car originally had a bench seat . . .

sm_buildingbrackets06.jpg

Got all the tubes welded into the brackets . . .

sm_buildingbrackets07.jpg

And got (2) of the (4) brackets ground down and cleaned up a bit . . . only (2) more left to do . . .

Fer Sasquatch Racin' !!!!!!!

LMAO Goon . . . I may just have to stamp that into one of the brackets under the car . . . for good measure ! ! !

Those look awesome Kahn! Love those attentions to detail and the "Race" type look even on sections of the car that will rarely be seen.

Nice work!

I've been watching for awhile and have to subscribe, great fabrication work!

Still working on the tunnel hump . . .

Before I could start welding in the tunnel hump, I had decided that I needed more strength in the cross-members that would be supporting the new bucket seats in my car - since my car was originally a bench seat, I needed to add more bracing to properly support the bucket seats . . .

One of the cross-members was used to build in a drive shaft loop . . . but I was concerned that the 1" tubing loop was not enough to support the buckets and the weight of (2) people, should both front seats be occupied . . .

So I've added some additional 1" x 2" rectangular tubing with the drive shaft loop - for additional reinforcement . . .

sm_thehemiisin58.jpg

Next - I'll have to do the same thing for the half-loop further back that will also be used to support the bucket seats in the car . . .

well . . . when this Sashsquash falls through the floor ( for lack of support ) then it will be the "first" thing I would see, right before I get run over by my own car ! ! LMAO ! ! !

I'm just going to start calling you Dr Overkill! Looking good Kahn

Sorry for the long delay . . . life got in the way . . . again . . .

Been in the shop but the progress has been slow . . . until today, when I wrapped up the other bucket seat cross member . . . ( Dr. Overkill ? ! ? - LMAO )

Here's what I've finally got done . . .

sm_thehemiisin59.jpg

How I want to get some epoxy primer on this metal before I put the tunnel hump over top of it to protect the metal . . . Now I know that the bucket seats that I'm putting in the car are not going anywhere - even with me ( Sasquatch ) sitting in it ! ! !

Hey Goon . . . fix provided . . . sorry it took so long ! !

- - - Updated - - -

Uhhhh yeah I agree....holy crap. I think you could easily lift the car with that hoop!.

Hey KB67 . . . that was my intentions . . . but remember, it also supports the bucket seats and my car was an original bench seat ( needed some reinforcements )
