Hey guys,
So I rebuilt my four speed last April when I rebuilt my engine. 71 Charger, 440/4speed, 3.55 8 3/4 rear.
Well, unfortunately this bad boy is leaking 90w like a sieve! Well, maybe that's an exaggeration but there is a puddle of oil in my driveway and the trans is covered with droplets of 90w.
Upon inspection, she appears to be leaking from the yoke output seal, the rearmost shift lever shaft, and possibly the reverse shaft as well (although it might just be covered in oil from the leaky shaft above it.) The front shift shaft is dry. And it might be leaking a bit from the reverse light switch.
Now, I believe I changed out all the o-rings and stuff when I rebuilt this baby. But what I'm wondering is: can I replace the shift-shaft seal with the trans still in the car? Well, I know I CAN. Cause all that needs to come off is the side-cover. But, will it be next to impossible to get the side cover back on with the tranny still attached to the motor?
Also, this thing pops out of second gear when decelerating. If you're engine breaking down a hill, gauranteed it'll pop out of gear. Any notion on that?
Thanks!
Sam
