How and why did you get into Mopars?

Well my family was into chevys and fords, but when I was old enough to know better and me and my buddies started getting into muscle cars, 3 distinct childhood memories caused me to be the mopar guy of the bunch....the roadrunner cartoons and commercials, the general lee, and a neighbor across the street who had a black 70 challenger...I remember us kids playing in the street and I'd hear that cackly rumble, turn and look to see that distinctive grill coming towards us..."car! time out!"..sometimes he'd light up the tires for us and we'd giggle for 15 minutes...

Out of high school a friend of mine got a job selling parts at a Dodge dealer. Since he got good discounts I bought Mopars to save on parts. Simple economics.

Bought my first Turbine Bronze 1968X440 back in '69. Not much to say. I saw it sitting on a dealership's gravel overflow lot and convinced my mother to back me on my first loan. Forget what I paid, but it wasn't over $3000 bucks. Lots of fun memories in that ol' mopar. She was a real beauty with a badass reputation, lol. A couple of yrs later, I bought my 2nd mopar - a 1970 Dodge Charger R/T 440 Six-Pack 4 Spd. Hurst, to which the following story refers... I may have posted this story on FB or perhaps FBBO earlier, but I'll post it again here, hopefully for your enjoyment...

Can you believe, I sold this car for $2000 bucks? (I had quit my job.., and needed quick cash for moving expenses.) I Kick My ***!

Keep On Rock'n :)

Thought of another one in between #4 and #5.

From the time I was about 9, we went to a K-Mart just outside the city limits.
Parked across the street was a 69 N96 F8 Super Bee.
We drove past that car about once every 2 weeks.
I thought that was the meanest looking car I had ever seen.
From 1978 until 1986, the car never moved.
At age 12, I went over and looked in the window.
It was four speed and bucket seats, black int and black tail stripe.
I also fell in love with tail stripes at that time.
Shortly thereafter, we moved into a neighborhood about three blocks away from there.
After I had been driving a while and bought my 66 Coronet, I started stopping by that house and knocking on the door.
I did that at least once a month from 1984 until 1986.
Finally in late '86, someone answered.
Younger guy about early 20's (I was 18) and the car owner.
Of course I babbled on about how cool the car was, showed mine off and asked if he ever considered selling his, that I was a worthy next owner.
He said maybe but not now, and I gave him my contact info.
Two weeks later the car was gone, never to be seen again.

WTF??

I was totally GM loyal and a friend whos father was a mopar engineer talked me into mopars after I got bored with seeing the same cars in every mag

Technically, you were right the first time. Two words but I'm not a member of the word police

Well, now I'm going to have to rethink this whole MOPAR thing ... THANKS a lot.. .............. now I'm leaning towards Corvette Stingray .. or is it Sting Ray .. ....... ah the hell with it :(

My whole family was GM. Uncles aunts cousins, with exception of my dad who drove Ramblers. I learned to drive on a 62' Rambler Classic stick shift. My first car was a 56' Chevy 150 two door sedan. Then another one this one being a Belair. Got married and at the time had a 62' Catalina, she had a 65' Mustang. We went down to just her car for a couple of years. Meanwhile I was working at a Chrysler dealer, and one co worker, gave me a hard time about what I was driving, a 64' Impala. He said Chevy's are "small block time bombs" with that power glide and weak cams. So I was looking for a second car. A friend had a 69' Cornet 500 convertible, 383, four speed with a locker real axle. The engine was junk, the body a little rust. I bought it, and came up with a 440 out of a 73'. Had to have a pilot bearing hole put in the crank. And while it ran good it always had a vibration. Sold it a few latter and bought a 65' Belveder two, two Dr hard top, with a six stick. It was one of the best cars I ever owned. We left our daily driver home often as we like to drive the Plymouth. I had other mopars, two other cars, a van and three pickups. Seven years ago it was time to replace her car. She wanted a Ford, me a 300. We settled on a Chevy. I like the car, but it's had a noise in the engine on start up since the second year. GM refused to fix it. So I'm soured on any more compromises. But since we drive cars till the wheels fall off, it will be a while till I get a Chrysler.

I think I got my '68 because of the street cred of Mopar's back then & of course there always the thought of hemi's being out there somewhere. The optional hemi was a tad over $500 back then & just too big a bite to take. (woulda, coulda, shoulda)

My sis-in-law had me take care of their '73 Charger SE, which was her husbands father's. After a few years they moved back to DC, and gifted the car to me (being the mechanic had its perks!). From that point on I was a Mopar guy. I still own the car, as well as two '68 383 4-bbl 4-spd Chargers (one with factory A/C). Love them....

I was probably 8..9? Living in Okotoks, Alberta...townhouse with my sister and parents, next door neighbours moved down from the Yukon, Bob worked as a trailer mechanic in Calgary..Tri-Line? Anyway, he drove a '77-'78 Dodge 1/2 ton, just beautiful...not a speck of rust...well cared for. Their son Dale drove a '72 Demon with a small block and automatic, he was a mechanic and always messing around with it, swapping headers and carbs. My first introduction to MOPARS....years later, living in Cochrane, we lived in a townhouse, but there were only seven of them, a guy started dating a single mom their, eventually they got married. His name was Bill Kneight, he owned a 1966 Dodge Coronet 500, factory 426 HEMI, auto, factory heater/radio delete car...used to race it in and around Calgary and area. He ended up hurting the motor on one pass, pulled it off the track and it became a summer toy, then he bought a 1971 Dodge Charger R/T, factory HEMI/auto...then came the 1970 Dodge Charger R/T, HEMI/auto and then finally the 1966/67 Dodge Coronet 440, HEMI/auto! So during the summer months..guess what was parked in the overflow parking..yeah..I was hooked and hooked hard on those cars! They were different....unlike all the Ford or Chevies running around, so I guess...since 8 or 9 I have been a MOPAR gear head....and DAMN proud to be an individual who knows which cars and trucks are the best! The ones that banned!!!
