Like the title says. I have a couple sets of rallye mirrors that I want to clean up. Would like to blast and paint one pair, but can't figure out how to get the glass out without breaking it. New glass seems to be nonexistent.

If glued in one of the members here gave me the idea of fastening a handle to the glass using 2 sided tape, pulled it right off no problem. That was on my Charger mirror so not sure if they're fastened on the same?

That'd be me. I did that for a standard mirror off my 69 and it popped right off. Is yours a remote mirror? If so, i suppose yanking away might damage the linkage before the adhesive? Not really sure.

Just hope the adhesive doesn't remove the silvering of the mirror.

A non remote mirror is easy to remove.....the remote mirror is a whole different ball game. It uses a full adhesive versus 4 glue points...

I wish I knew of an easy way on a remote mirror but everything I tried broke it or damaged it. I have tried all ticks that I know of...

I think that's the least of the worries. Any decent glass shop could cut a new piece for ya. That was my ace in the hole when i did mine.

From your experience, is it likely that the remote mechanism could be damaged from yanking on the glass?

Not if you want a date coded mirror......whole different story....

If not then yes a glass shop can do it blind

That is correct....it will stretch the 4 wires attached to the back of the housing or if going superman at it they can break off....

soak it over night in a product called goo b gone.....or laquer thinner.....the glass will fall right off....breaks down adhesive

Tried both and it did not fall right out....The black adhesive is a Bear!

That's a great idea on soaking it. I'm too much of a caveman sometimes, hence my grab it and rip it off method.

Use thick dental floss or fishing line, slip it behind the mirror and work it down. It should slice through any adhesive or tape and not damage the silvering. ( think of those wire cheese cutters) I've done this multiple times.

And if it does break- I googled mirrors and found a place in Chicago I think that sells replacement glass for a non-remote at least that set me back $9.00 + minimal shipping last year.Cant remember company name.

Yeah, I think that would work good. Only problem is that I can't get the line behind the glass with it still together.

Can't seem to find replacements for these anywhere. They are 1970-76 A-body sport mirrors. Drivers side is remote and the passenger side is not. I am going to take them to a glass shop to see if they could make me a set if I break them. Can't believe Ma Mopar made them so they can't be disassembled.

On my iPhone and had to get off FBBO to look(?). Mirrorglassplus.com. $19 for my non-remote. Excellent instructions&&NO breakage on arrival.
