Recently my wife bought a used 2017 Buick Envision low miles. It get's 32 MPG mostly highway driving. This car is made to shut off the engine when you stop at a stop light, and re start as soon as you take your foot off the brake and touch the acc. pedal. I can feel the car shake a little bit when the engine starts back up. I know this is supposed to help the gas mileage. But how long will that starter last? will the savings in fuel cost be enough to put a new starter on? I am tempted to dis connect that feature when the warrantee runs out, if that can even be done. ...........................MO

It'd work better on a cop car or taxi.

I have the same curiosity. I think it'd wear the starter out quicker, but I don't own one to know

It doesn't have a disable button?

If gas was $10 a gallon I still would not like that feature. Of all the different ways to save gas and/or increase mileage I would think that is odd. Not knocking your car Cornpatch just my 2 cents.

Sure the starter has to wear out faster, but, you WILL drive it like it is& save gas & not pollute OUR air; so sayeth GM and the EPA!

You should be to disable that feature through the onboard user computer system.
It's somewhere in the settings.

That system has to wear out parts besides just the starter, too...
Heck with that noise. Kill it.

The engine shuts off.....the ac compressor stops...then the ac has to run more to cool the cabin again so it uses more gas...

What little I've read the starter isn't a standard starter. They're designed to do this, supposedly. Personally I'd disconnect it when you want.

Apparently the 2019 has a button to disable that feature. There maybe a Buick forum to better answer your question. my .02

My wife's 2016 Jeep Cherokee, has a button on the dash to disable that feature. Sometimes she forgets to shut it off, and when she first stops the car the engine shuts down. Then she swears at it and shuts the dam thing off.

I'm not enough of a tree hugger to keep something like that. I'd disable it ASAP.

No, I have searched the owners manual....................MO
Before coming to a complete stop at a light, try putting the shifter from D to L and back to D. This should disable the auto-shutdown. Some people have had luck with D - N - D as well.

Apparently the system realizes that in hot climates the engine has to keep going. People with these cars in Texas have noted that the engine keeps running while stopped.

The likely reason that Buick didn't add a 'stop' button for this feature is because the EPA mileage ratings were calculated with this built in.

Why did you buy this GM/Chinese creation if this worries you so much?

Yes. the D N D works to keep it running, but wifey keeps forgetting to do that I am going to check with the service manager and see if they can dis-able that and keep it in warantee. I say at 5-6 miles per gallon better that EPA highway miles we can sacrifice the engine off at stoplight feature. Thanks guys for your input...........................MO

It's an asshole feature designed by ******** due to an asshole government. On an otherwise nice vehicle we have ( wife's choice ) I can truly say I deeply despise it.
