Had a 66 Mustang Fastback with a 289 and a T-10. 1-3 was close ratio but 4th sounded like OD. With a Torker intake, headers and 600 Holley DP (the engine was a lower compression unit originally with a 2v) it would run a 15 flat which wasn't too bad for the day especially with 2.80 gears. Hey, it got 21 on the road tho! Never needed 4th at the track either.

Base engine for a road runner was the 383 and none of them came with a 3 speed on the column. You could get a Charger with anything from a /6 on up.....

The 70 Charger I had was a 318 3 speed on the column. It had a bench seat,no radio, and a design pattern where the clock went in the rallye dash. It was yellow, with a black vynal top and interior. It had painted yellow wheels and dog dish hubcaps. It was a real striped down car for a Charger. I had my yellow 70 Charger R/T SE 440 4 speed Dana car, and I used this striped down yellow Charger as my daily driver. I cloned up the 318 Charger to look just like my R/T. I put all the R/T trim and scoops on it,the same magnum 500 wheels, and dual exhaust on the car. They looked like twins! The 318 car got 18 miles to the gallon, and the R/T got about 6 miles to the gallon when driven properly. My girlfriend liked the bench seat too. I never registered the 318 car,I just swapped the plates back and forth between the two cars. Whenever someone wanted to race,I would tell them that I had to go get gas,and we could race when I get back, and I would swap the plates onto the R/T,and go kick some ***! Those were fun times!
