Car keeps stalling after changing lifters and push rods?

Solid lifter 440 dual carb setup. Ran fine with old lifters set to lash cold on all at 0.028!
Changed lifters and pushrods due to cracks in the old lifters. Set the lash according to spec - Purple Cam 528= 0.032 ( 0.026 cold ) Exhaust and 0.028 ( 0.022 cold ) Intake. Also changed the rotor and cap while at it.........and now engine suddenly stalls on me while driving - especially after giving it some throttle. It starts to stumble till the point where it eventually cuts out. I can then fire it up again after a few attempts, and it will drive fine untill the next time. The fact, that I can fire it up again leads me to think, that it is fuel related - that it is some how drowning itself. But why?
I haved checked, and rechecked all I can think of - timing, propper lash, mixture screw, Idle screws..........you name it. What am I missing/doing wrong?
Any help is much appreciated.

I think you are correct on a fuel problem. Probably going lean. Did you do anything with the fuel lines, specifically any rubber hoses?
Maybe a piece floating in the bowl and sometimes blocking the jet. I would take the carbs off and take the top off, clean and inspect.

Have your air cleaners off and soon as it stalls, check down in the carb as you pull the throttle linkage and see if it squirts. No squirt, no gas...

When you restart it, is there an excessive amount of smoke? Too much gas (flooding)

I have not touched anything else but the lifters and push rods ( well and exhaust, headers, fan.......a nightmare, becuase headers must come off to remove the valve covers when setting lash! ) I have left everything else untouched.
I have never taken a carb apart, so I am a bit hessitant. What about maybe the fuel filters......maybe I should try changing them first. An thoughts?

Only a little...........like when firing up after sitting for a while.

Well, you have to determine whats taking place when it stalls first. Spark, fuel, air. Then you will know what to check. Don't just guess and throw parts at it.

Jep, that is what I am trying - I just need some guidance :)

Check for gas in the carbs when it stalls.

Check vacume lines.

Check wire connections, coil, distributor, anything that you disconnected when RR manifold.

Think simple first. Good luck.

Maybe some water in the gas or carbs?

Again, take the top off one of the carbs, if they are AFB's it's pretty easy and does not affect any carb settings.
You can see water in the bottom if it's there looks like a clear blob.
Take pictures of the linkage and take your time.

Could also be weak fuel pump. If you're driving at 50mph and engine starts to die but will start right up, it's because not a big fuel demand at idle or start up.

Since this only started after you replaced the lifters I'd look at everything you touched, coil wire, fuel lines, loose wires, etc. I've went as far to tape a fuel pressure gauge to the windshield to troubleshoot a stumble.

just had a similar prob with mine started running like a pig and stalling out.....not sure on ur ignition setup but my points were stuck. As soon as we re-gapped and re-did the timing....it's F(*&king singing again and lights the tyres up everywhere.

I thought the same thing until I saw the MSD box.

I have gone over everything I touched 10 times allready. Since this was my first rocker/push rod change, and this issue now occurred, my biggest concern was..........did I mess something up? But since it starts and runs, it must be something else. Both my carbs looks dirty...are all black with soot, so maybe I should start there. But it is typical - change one thing, and something else fails :-(

Dirty carbs will make plenty of problems...needs to be taken care of, even if just hitting 'em with some Berryman's B-12.

Any ideas why the lifters cracked? Don't remember the term used, but setting lash on solids is best done using that method. Bet one of the guys jumps my bones on that one, but it's the prefered way. Critical part is getting #1 right, first. Maybe some valve over-lapping going on there.
