Mr. Belvedere

The Beast from the East LIVES! I readjusted the throttle and she came alive! Burn out from a dead stop lasted 3 houses and I let off. Good enough! Alignment is tomorrow morning. The Gear Venders works perfectly and the down shift into second, well, she just gets moving in a damn quick hurry. I’m satisfied with everything. Hopefully the owner will like it when he drives it.

Hard to do a burn out and take a pic without someone taking the pic.

Took me awhile to get someone to video me doing one. And these days, finding a safe place was a challenge also.

Car looks great! Should be a hoot to drive

Forgot to say that the aluminum tank I got from a member on FBBO fit really well. Also the corvette fuel filter/regulator took a **** and all along I thought it was the external pump whining. After doing a few tests, the regulator/filter failed on the return side. Now I used this instead of a normal adjustable regulator to save some money and keep things simple for the owner. Plus I happen to have a new one which I tossed in cause I’m such a nice guy, lol! So I grabbed a new one from Napa and all was good.

Still having trouble getting the gas gauge to work, but I’m leaning towards the gauge not working vs. the sender cause it work on the aluminum tank’s prior car which was factory gauge cluster and my grounds are tied together (sending unit and fuel pump). Hell, I couldn’t get the factory style sending unit to work either.

And the hits just keep coming. The 6.1 is damaged. I’ve replaced all the coils, swapped #8 injector with a spare one I have and still this engine is throwing codes. So the diagnosis is lifters and possibly the cam. The ticking will not go away, can hear in the exhaust tail pipes, the engine dances at idle, surges, and has died a few times. Hopefully the the owner will give me the ok to tear it apart and order new parts. But if he doesn’t, then he’s gonna need to trailer it home.

Feel for you, Zack. Must be disappointing not to be able to deliver it to the owner 'ready to launch'. On the other hand it looks like a really clean install. Nice work!

Just got the OK to tear it apart and get my mad scientist skills on, lol! I will say this, even with it being hurt, I bet it would still eat a Camaro.

Gonna start draining coolant/oil and the engine ready to pull.

It’s the #8 cylinder that is giving me codes, so I’ll post pics of the carnage.

Maybe a good time to put a custom grind cam and get some extra HP if you have to change it.

Here’s a pic of what happens with the Hemi Tick.

It’s best to stay stock with this car. It’s super easy for him to take it to a dealer if it ever needs service. So I’m staying stock with it. I’m not putting the guy down or being a dick, just from what I can tell about him, his skills, this is the best way.

Here’s the worn cam lobe on #6 intake. Lifters all look fine, but changing anyway with the updated lifters that have an oil hole to the roller.

New lifters with the oiling hole. Take the heads off, and it’s really not that big!

I used the Corvette fuel regulator junk on my Charger also for the same reasons as you. Plus it was what Bouchillon recommended. I put mine on the Dyno with only a few miles on it and found it running way lean and the engine was surging at light acceleration. I got rid of the only Generic Motors piece on my car and installed a adjustable fuel regulator. Set it at 58 lbs and both issues were cured. Sorry to hear about the engine failure but it sounds like it wasn't a lean condition that caused it.

It was a bad lifter and the guy that the engine was purchased from installed the Eagle heads along with lifters. Never bothered to look at the cam lobes, and sent it on it’s way. So now I’m fixing what he screwed up, and the FBBO member is paying for it. Sucks!
I did drop off the heads at my local machine shop this morning. Should have them back next week sometime.

Here’s the cam. It’s FUBAR!
