Ok- I think there's a TZ episode kinda similar with a cop in a '62 Plymouth too. Remember the show 'Fury' no less with Peter Graves? That's earlier though remember a late 50's Plymouth wagon they drove. Damn - getting to like those old mopar wagons and to think I passed on some great deals on very restorable ones in the past some 15 years! Nice mopar history on TV with Plymouths...Peter Gunn, Mannix...sorry I'm getting off da point.

I remember 1-Adam 12 pulling over a '62 Plymouth. Think the guy was killing young girls.

Dragnet was another good show to see them.

Anyone have info on the Chrysler letter cars that were reported to have had the Pont Mousoon (my spelling might be wrong), Italian built four speed manual transmissions? I had an article, photos, which included some guess work on how many might have been built, but the information left lots of questions too..... it did include one car found on a farm In Texas, Alabama, or maybe South Georgia, in the 1990’s. I guess I’m more curious about the year, and if this was factory or were these test “mules”, I have lost the article I once had.

The gentleman I bought my Superbird from passed away 15 yrs ago at the age of 84,he had a letter car every year from 1955 to 1965,the white 60 F convertible was in fact a f Pont a Mousson 4 spd. The 61 G convertible is still in this area.
 
the faubel 62 has on one in it & I believe the same company also made some early proto type experimental race 4 speed for the 68 SS cars that only went out to supposedly 5 drivers for testing & had to be returned
 
A lot of cool photos from the past. That guy in the pic post #249, laying along the track might have been a track official? Wow, what a bad place to be if a car lost control or blew and engine - good luck getting his *** out of harm's way. Da good old days when we drank from garden hoses...

Thank you for responding...and by the way, I dig the ‘62 Dodge, our neighbors next door, owned a ‘62 Polara 500 that solidified me as an early B body MoPar fanatic, but ‘63 Polara stole my heart in the 80’s. I’ve owned both and thought another ‘62 Dart MW could keep my ‘63 Polara Conv company.
Back to the letter car, that’s has to be the car the article was written about. The owner was interviewed as well that’s how I learned he was related to King Richard, and maybe was an early connection to Chrysler and the beginning of their involvement with NASCAR, all these stories surrounding the MoPars in the early 60’s are fascinating!

Let me add, I just found the article, (I never thrown away an auto related magazine. It was Don Petty, Richards cousin. Pont Mousoon is a French comp, (sorry everyone), and it’s a great read and very informative, and you can see just how far Chrysler Corp was willing to go to be number one, and sell more cars than anyone. I bet it’s the same car. Thanks again for allowing me to discuss these awesome cars, and I am working on buying a couple boxes of photos from the local Chrysler/Dodge and Plymouth dealerships, I will post any all photos of 1962s that I find! Everyone stay safe!
 
My 62 Savoy going into the paint shop. I had another 62 Savoy when l was in my early 20's l put a 413 in that and had loads of fun until a huge cottonwood tree fell on it in a wind storm. The one l have now l bought 20 years ago as a old race car shell that someone put a old hemi in with a sledgehammer. Seriously, the shock towers were just smashed in. About the only good thing it had was a good 6 point cage that l added swingout side bars. Lots of work later it now has a 440 with 2x4 Carter 500 cfm Comp carbs, mildish cam, 906 heads, . Performance 727 Trans build, mildly higher stall converter. Deep oil pans, cooler and so on. Complete suspension rebuild, 11.75" front disk brakes. Seems the list could go on all day. l put in a narrower 8 3/4 with 4.10 gears with suregrip. The body needed some work and l couldn't afford body shop rates. Did l mention this was a budget build while raising 3 kids. I bought a mig welder, taught myself to weld and paid for that welder many times over. If anyone's interested in more details pm me I'll post more photos as l can.

I happened into some money about seven years ago. It wasn't enough to pay the mortgage down to make a difference so I started to think about some kind of an investment. So doing some searching for an early "B" body I came across this '62 Polara 500. Not my favorite but it's definitely a unique vehicle.

This car was bought new in California, spent most of its life in Oregon. Being rust free to me is more than half the battle so that was the contributing factor to purchase it. The more I looked at it, the more I liked it. The more research I did on it, the more interesting it became. So much history for just one car. I don't think there are too many other vehicles that compare.

I did an evaluation on it and over the past seven years, I collected parts. If I could find a better tail light that had less pitting, I'd buy it. Some pieces around the grill had damage, I'd buy those pieces, and so on.

I've only been able to start working on it for just over a year now and it's been an interesting venture. I've had plenty of time to think about what I wanted when it was all done. Also being on a budget, you have to draw the line on just how much you're going to put into it. So I decided to build a tribute to the sixties racing days. Old school look and feel for that era. I grew up working on these and other newer seventies muscle cars, frequenting the tracks back then and even racing a '64 Polara for several years.

I guess you could say that we were made for each other, so the story continues. This coming year should be the year to go out and have some fun with it. Over the winter I need to get the front seats upholstered, headliner replaced and new carpet. The mechanical part is pretty much done now and that is what I was wanting to accomplish first. I'm not too worried about all of the cosmetics, leaving some patina is something that the car has earned over the years and I'll plan on keeping that look for the time being.
