Well, it finally happened! After 20 years, I’m back in the hobby. I just picked this Coronet 500 up this past Sunday.
It’s an original 318/904 console/buckets car. Currently it has a 360/727. It also came with a ‘77 440/727 out of a motor home. It’s got the standard BC rust...needs quarters, extensions, trunk floor and front floor pans. The interior is all there but needs replacing.
My plan is to Garage Squad/Roadkill Garage it...restore it while I’m driving it. I’m pretty excited..I missed that old Mopar smell!

Thanks! I think I got it for a pretty good deal...$4900 US for a running/driving car. Of course, the running part only lasted until I got it on the trailer, once I got home I couldn't get it started, he had used a jump wire in the bulkhead connector but it fell out. Not sure where he had it. I tried to bypass it by sparking the starter relay but can't get it to fire. First priority is get it to start semi-reliably so my wife starts believing me when I said it ran lol

Cool car. Did you find this on one of the Gulf Islands?

I knew it! Actually, the ferry was the give away. Nice score.

A 440. Originally sold by the Parish and Clark dealership in Tulsa, OK. 318, 904, 8 1/4 with bench seat, A/C, power steering and manual drum brakes. And AM radio.
Very fun to drive around.
I imagine you will enjoy your car.

Is missing driver door trim a requirement?

That is funny. I have a T7 Bronze '69 Coronet 500. 318/904, and the drivers side door trim is there, but dented up. looks like the door was opened into something? Also has the dent in the passenger side front fender, Rotted rear window frame, Trunk floor, and lower rear quarters.
Cas is pretty solid, but looks like it may have been in a wreck long ago as the passenger side rear quarter looks like it was repaired, and the shock bracu under the car has some nasty welds connecting it to the passenger side frame rail.

It seems it’s a small ‘500’ world lol.
Mine is an original 319/904 but is currently a 360/727 with 8 3/4. The guy I bought it from claimed that the 360 came from the Sears catalog back in the day...

So, I’ve had the Coronet home for a week now. I’ve settled on my plan of attack. Like I said previously, the car was running when I bought it, but since I’ve been home, I haven’t been able to get it to start. I’ve basically ordered everything new for under the hood...wiring harness, electronic ignition, coil, plug wires, relays, etc. As you can see in the pics, the salt air hasn’t been nice to the car, everything is covered in surface rust :( Also, the wiring was a complete mess! I figured it’s best just to start from scratch. My only deviation to the original plan is that I’m now going to pull the motor/trans, clean it up, re-gasket, paint and throw it back in.
Here’s some pics.

I also pulled the grill and tail light panel out to clean them up. There’s a lot of green mould/mildew on everything. Also, the tail panel was painted with a brush at one time lol. Everything is in good shape, there’s only a couple of broken posts on the tail panel. Since it’s just going to be a driver, I will try polishing it up and painting it myself.
I appreciate hearing any advice/experience in this regard.

Does anyone know where I can get these pal nuts? They look like they had some sort of rubber gasket or insert. Mostly all rotten away.

I also noticed that many of the studs on the tail panel had what looks like foam washers/gaskets...any info on these would be handy as well.

I started getting everything prepped to pull the motor and trans...first roadblock was that the center drag link went through the driver side header....I got a pickle fork but one of the tie rod ends absolutely refused to pop...I don’t think any of these parts have ever been replaced!
I still can’t get the headers out, can I lift the engine slightly? What’s the secret to B body headers???
