Weird brake question

When I was in HS, I put transmission fluid in instead of oil. When the can said Auto Trans Fluid, I thought it was oil for cars with Automatic Transmissions.

Not for nothing when your coming from being around new cars it's not a bad ? As they don't make any gauge move ! So it's one of those things that does it's job without you knowing!
These old cars have amp gauge's not volt so they really jump around with a little thing like brake lights ! (And turn signals!)
Wanna really watch it dive turn the high beams on and hit your brakes then the 4 ways!!!!

Oh HELL no ya don't....
Looky here. We ALL ask questions in this life that somebody else readily answers with a smirk
on their face....and then we smack our foreheads and go "duh, I knew that...."
If we're blessed with such, we get a loooong lifetime of that sort of thing.

These cars are wonderfully simple to learn on, yet they have all sorts of characteristics that
sometimes border on human, I swear...
All of that is why the cars are so much fun - and the people who also choose them as their hobby/
obsessions are also typically a lot of fun to hang with!
Come along for the ride with us, Ben. It's a blast for a lifetime.
Ben - this is a great site for learning, I have found everyone helpful and if you ask politely and coherently, you will likely get many answers and learn a great deal - I know I have. You are definitly in good company here!

And, if everyone on this site even listed just ONE of their classic car "learning experiences" when it came to working on their first car, that would be a very well read post, ha ha. I've seen quite a few mistakes in my day (we all have), mine and those of my friends. Worst mistake to make is to NOT ask a question and turn a simple question into a costly unforced error. Trust me, I know ...

I gotta admit, that's a doozy.

Lord knows, I've written volumes on this site....and left them up for all posterity, so that future generations can
also make fun of....errrr, I mean LEARN FROM.... them. :)

This topic - learning / mistakes - would make for a great and likely hilarious thread. From my angle, I think if you're not making them, ya ain't or haven't been doing much. I still manage to make them; always fun when you need to re-assemble something requiring a proper sequence - like putting a car back together - only to realize ya gotta take it apart again to do the re-assembly I just completed ... friggin LATER! lol

One of my favorites was a neighbor (we were 16 and 17 then) who was so pleased his well traveled and worn '62 Ford Galaxie sedan finally stopped smoking ... turns out it has run so low on oil, there wasn't enough left to burn! ... that was the end of the motor, and a ride home via a tow truck.

Did we lose Ben

A friend tells a story of when he was working in a repair shop, an MG came in on a hook, quit running right after the female owner checked the oil, and filled it up.

Yep, my friend drained nineteen quarts of oil out of a 1600cc four banger. She filled it to the bottom of the oil fill cap.

Someone start a thread about all the stupid things we've all done on our cars. Sort of a "what NOT to do" thread. It will likely last into the next decade....

heck........ I broke 2 maybe 3 wheel studs on my GTX (35 years ago) before I realized they were left hand thread :fool:
