Started out with a 68 in 1973, 383 4 speed orange with black top and black stripes on the hood. Picked up a 69 in 1978 black with white interior, 383 auto. Paid $500 for each one of them and drove them home. What will $500 get you now.
An instrument panel, 3 piece bezel kit !
 
I have had many different year Road Runners through the years, and currently own 4 of them. A lot of people don’t give the later year runners enough credit. Last year I drove my ‘75 700 miles each way to Carlisle and this year we drove the ‘80 to Carlisle. Both are magnificent road trip cars. The 71 being a triple black car without a/c is primarily a spring and fall choice and the 69.5 with 4.10 gears will get a lot of trailer time. So I will have to say that my all time favorite one is the one that I am driving.
 
OK, just for my interest....i would love to know what everyone tends to think is the best year for the RR.

Please try not to be too biased, i know its hard....i have a 69 which i truly think is the best...but anyhow, should be interesting to see what everyone thinks..
1970 Superbird Roadrunner
 
I factory ordered a '75 which I still own today. It's a 400 4 Barrel, cat delete with a Sundance interior, currently under restoration. I'd love a '69 440 6 Barrel, but under the circumstances, I can vote for no other than the '75.
 
I would also love a '72 440 6 Barrel, but I would first have to determine whether or not it was real!

Shouldn't be too hard, as the only one known to have been built is well documented. :) (There are also two '72 6-pack Chargers known).

I've had 3 different years. A 70, 71 & 72, but I'll have to say the 68 is the best year, with the 71 second but I would take any of them until 75.
 
Had to sell my RR when I got married but told the new wife that some day I would have another. A few years ago while working in PHX I was able to buy a numbers matching 70 GTX. So one of these days it will be on the road and I will be back in old muscle car business.

Chrysler may have destroyed it after it did its PR duty. It does however make it possible that there may be a second one out there.

Yes, I'm familiar with all three of these cars, but none have their original drive trains, so who knows whether or not they are actually real. There's no way to be 100% confident about it.

The RR was restored a few years ago and yes it's real.
 
It was the first year for side markers, this was the starting point. They didn't move them down; in later years they moved them up.

I think he means compared to the other '68 models. The Coronet and Charger had them about mid way. I like that look better than down where they are on the Plymouths
 
IMO if 68 Plymouth had them mounted higher, it would not look good . In 1969 it was all about the government mandating they were bigger in size and would be more noticable if mounted higher.........................MO
 
i find it interesting how much people on here talk about the side markers, i'm pretty new to the US Muscle and new to classic cars, however prior to joining this forum and purchasing a 69 RR i honestly never even noticed the side markers.....and i didnt know it would be something to even have a conversation about.....

i guess i'm learning every day, that the more you think, look and get involved in something you focus more and more on the details, the little things that most wouldnt even notice.....

i mean, most of the Australian population (where i live) wouldnt even know what a roadrunner is, let alone the fact it even has side markers :rofl:


I guess i'm going to have to answer a lot of questions when i finally get the old girl and take it on the road.....:steering:
