Here’s why car thefts are soaring

My key fob does not unlock the car unless I press the unlock button so I have no idea what anyone is complaining about....
Newer vehicles, like my 2018 Rebel Ram, do not use a key for anything or even have any keyholes. The doors unlock when you touch the driver or passenger door handle. The vehicle starts by pushing the start button. You only need to have the FOB in close proximity for it to all work, preferably in your pocket. (Or doesn't work if the battery is dead?). Works great if used properly.

On my Durango the doors lock at 20 mph with the fob in the car when you're driving it, but, you can't lock the doors with the fob in the car when you get out of it. The horn honks twice and the car unlocks the doors. All these new car are computers on wheels.
That is what a Honda driver thought also. Cost him some time and money to find out it can happen.

Nothing surprises me anymore, I lock my car always, even in my driveway. If they want it, they'll get it. I lock it in hopes that it will be there when I need it. I said hope!! LOL

My key fob does not unlock the car unless I press the unlock button so I have no idea what anyone is complaining about.....Yes its easy to forget it in the car but you cannot lock the car without it.......Now if you leave it in your unlocked car, walk away and return to find your car stolen thats on you, not the car maker.....I would remind everyone that failing to lock/secure your vehicle, leaving anything potential dangerous inside that in the wrong hands. , realizing that a stolen car can result in tragedy, constitutes a degree of negligence on the part of the vehicle owner.
My car is always locked when its out of my sight
We just bought a 2021 Toyota Highlander for my wife 2 months ago. I keep the fob on a clip on my belt. All I have to do is walk within 10 feet of the car and the driver's door unlocks, as well as the rear hatch. There is no way to disable the new technology either. I hate the keyless start, but all new vehicles are being designed with it.
My Kenworth has the old fashioned key fob, that I have to manually push the button to lock and unlock the doors. That also stays clipped to my belt...ALWAYS!!! No getting locked out for me, sorry Al @HEMI-ITIS :D
I also keep a spare key to my Kenworth wire-tied somewhere under the truck. If I don't point it out, nobody would ever find it.

Im way out of touch with this new technology, we got the wife a new car which sits in the driveway as my wife is still wanting to drive the old one
My wife who has OCD insists on hiding the stupid key fob but im sure the fob when I can find it works like your truck. I will be checking it out later
The only thing I like is this new vehicle doesn't shut off at traffic lights,,my son in laws car does that and it dives me nuts

Agree, we went to Vegas and rented a car. That was like going to a different planet in many ways.
LOL. I drove old stuff. 1995 is my newest car, and I’m very happy about it!

I do have to admit some of the new technology, those warnings when changing lanes, getting to close to the car in front of you, knowing when other cars are coming up on you, they are all helpfully especially for older drivers

My wife's new SUV has all that crap. REALLY annoying when in any kind of traffic. And yet again, most of it can't be turned off.
