What did you do today....other than work on your car!?

After all the wood was moved and the debris raked up.. My son decided before planting some grass we should remove the rocks (ice bergs) that were sticking up a few inches... Hammer drilled some holes, used some masonry bits and broke them apart. 4 hours later we got them all out and was able to fill most of the holes back in...

Helluva lot easier than replacing decks and blades....

Rocks. Sneaky lil' bastards. Good work!

and drinking beer. Saw my new neighbor up on a tall (14'?) step ladder standing on the very top of it trying to hang a swing in a tree. Told him he could borrow my 28' extension ladder and he declined....at first. About 10 minutes later he came asking for it lol. Other than that, I washed my 'new' 96 Dakota and have been cleaning up the shop.....and drinking beer :D

Was inspecting a pair of TTI 2'' headers I`m going to sale and found a small crack in no. 3 tube , think I`ll have a prof. welder weld it instead of mig welding it myself .

More of the same, finishing up loose ends created by the radiant floor project. This time it's completing the stairs, the added floor thickness threw the risers all out of whack! Other than the wife doing some painting and me raising the front door this should be it for me in the house. I've got a cabinet to finish building but at least it will all be done in the woodshop.. not where I relax!

Spent a few minutes figuring out why my power steering quit working on the Massey.. not good! Go figure, they way $600 for this particular one:BangHead:

Wow! Did something get into it?
I bought this tractor knowing the power steering didn't work, found a sheared woodruff key on that gear and replaced it only to have this happen next. I don't know if it spinning freely on the shaft for a while loosened up the fit and caused this or if it was the loose needle out of a bearing that I found that did it? When I replaced the key I looked at the bearings, they were caged but one somehow still got out. It's a 1959 so with it appearing to be the original that's one long life at any rate. Suck it up and buy a new one.. next year I'll completely restore the whole tractor, just looking to get through another summer of bush hogging.

I'm not going to bitch much, I bought this Massey 65 with a nice bush hog for $1,400 and it's in excellent condition considering it's age. 2 stage clutch, high and low range, good tires, no rust or dents.. just needs some freshening up.

See if there is a place that sells a rebuild kit for it.. If it was a popular pump you should be able to rebuild it..
Already did and still looking, a shaft and gear would fix it but at this point all I'm finding is whole pumps.

Shame about 10 years ago we had a Massey Ferguson dealer here that was opened in the 50's close-up and sold off everything inside the building as far as I know.. They had piles and shelves full of new old stock wear items for old tractors...

We have an old dealership nearby, I suspect the same will happen soon as they're getting up there in age. They know their stuff and stock a lot of parts for them.

My Gravely garden tractor isn't that old but at 37, Ebay is where I look first....and even then the parts are drying up and/or are getting expensive. :( It could use a new PTO coupler but man, it ain't cheap these days and well, how much time do I have left before my back won't even let me use it...

Blown Head Gasket!

Neighbors LA125 started smoking all of a sudden. Single cylinder Briggs & Strattons (all aluminium blocks) are known for this problem. Looks like a design flaw to me  Maybe an extra head bolt would help? They did widen the new gasket in this area. Compression leaks through and builds pressure into the crankcase causing oil to creap up past the rings and into the chamber.

Not a bad job to do, gasket around $13. Just wish someone had some common sense when designing things.

Watch leaf blowers if they are known for defective fans! I was using mine Sunday. Set it down, picked it up, hit the trigger and ka-pow, plastic pieces flying everywhere.

Another easy fix. Around $10 for the replacement blade. New blade is a different color and seems more pliable. You have to disassemble the unit to hold the motor shaft to screw off the impeller. There is a recall on the next bigger unit than the one I have. I've had this one for three years.

Oh, did I mention, I have to put these things back together yet.

I work. Tuesday thru Sat. I kinda like it. I still have time to do a Sat night dinner and/or nightcap. And having Mondays off just feels so right!

I finished up the rear brake rebuild on my '64 Polara this afternoon. New shoes and wheel cylinders with new drums. I was going to change the rear axle seals too, but everything looked dry and fairly clean, so I decided not to mess with it. I hope this decision doesn't come back to bite me in the a$$ later. Then I sold a spare engine crossmember to a young guy working on a 1970 Charger R/T. I told him about FBBO and said he should join up.

What? Not another damn Dodge owner? (Oh, that's right. I get nowhere trying to start a "Dodge vs Plymouth" on this site.)
