Dual point Dist question

My car is dual points and I have zero interest in changing it.

So,,,,,,whats a high quality point set and condenser avail today

I recently picked up a few nos tan caps and rotors buttons. So inside the cap parts are next for the shelf

Let's talk to @HALIFAXHOPS

Old school, good Points File and some emery paper, adjust gap and the points are good again....

Used to run a Mallory Dual point back in the late 60s
early 70s. Had no problems,& yes set one then block with match book cover to set other.

Old school... Use a dwell meter & adjust one set at a time, set each individual set to as I recall 26 degrees, unblock the points & check, the total should be @ 38 degrees....

Mallory marketed a "Double Life" distributor that used 2 sets of points.....but....each set were at 90° angles to each other on the breaker mounting plate and were operated by a FOUR lobe cam. This arrangement resulted in each set of points making and breaking half the time, which, theoretically, DOUBLED their life, hence the name. It also used a large externally mounted condenser and a strange Mallory designed cap and rotor. Out of curiosity, I purchased and installed it, seeking the "ultimate" ignition system.....but.....it performed no better or worse than the Mopar distributor..... oh well, live and learn.... Just my opinion of course.

Any NOS Mopar are good and Most NORS pre 80 is usually fine just have to test them. New stuff generally fail the condenser test after a few hot/cold cycles and spring tension on the newer points is usably weak also causing point float at higher rpm.

If u set both at 17, checked connection at distributor and car starts you should be fine. The purpose of duel point is faster and hotter due to longer coil charge. A single point can stay open longer at high RPMs due to spring, duel point also reduces this for more even and consistent spark
