426 hemi oiling question

Comp cams own website says 829-16 works for hemi too, their own picture on their site shows a lifter with a band , BUT.... their part description says WITHOUT oil band.
Found that part# in four different places. Every one of them listed $548 and some change. Fair trade much?

Have your lifter bores bushed . Those oil bands are for Hippo oiling to the rollers which you will want for street use.

I wouldn’t run that as is.

The short term solution is some Comp 829’s, and hopefully you aren’t running tons of spring load.
Long term, have the lifter bores bushed with bushings that sit well above the stock lifter bore, so you can run a banded body.

Before buying the std 829’s, I’d test fit a Comp 96829.
They have axle oiling and have a much narrower oil band than those Cranes do.
If they don’t uncover the band in your block, you’d be good to go without bushings.

You will likely end up needing different pushrods when you switch lifters.

Any updates?
Yea I contacted Ray and I’m returning the lifters for a set that should work I’ll update the thread once I receive the replacements. The ones he shipped originally are for a tall lifter bore block
and according to Ray mopar started casting blocks with taller lifter bores in 1974. I asked for a quality lifter with no oil band so we’ll see what I get. So I will have a brand spanking new set of Smith Bros. Pushrods I can’t use but oh well.

Check out the size and location of these oiling notches. They are .480 from the top of the lifter and .575 wide.

If the top of that lifter was flush with the top of the lifter bore anything over .480 lobe lift would expose the oil notch and it would bleed.

Sure not usable with out a bushings.

I agree and it was told to them up front that this wasn’t and would not be bushed. I don’t plan to be spinning this thing up to 10,000! I still don’t know exactly what purpose the notches or oil bands serve

I could see them on passengers side to let more oil to bearings maybe?

I can’t argue I really don’t know but can’t see how it would have any effect on oil to the mains.
the lifter bores cut into half of main gallery diameter. My thinking is it’s a means to cut down on the weight of the lifter but I really don’t know.

Basically, the purpose for the band on a Mopar roller lifter is to provide a means to get oil from the oil gallery to the hole that feeds the axle and/or pushrod(if you’re running pushrod oiling)

If you look close you can see a small drill bit sticking out of the lifter where the oil feed to the axle is.

This is a BBM lifter.
From the bottom of the wheel to the top of the oil band is about 1.450”.
