I had trouble with our old device in conjunction with our "new" lg oled tv that we bought a while ago when the old crt one went out.
I bought an adapter (scart to hdmi) but with some dvds the picture was bigger than the screen.
I decided not to mess with it and bought a new unit that can do more than just playing dvds.

This is it:
https://tascam.com/us/product/bd-mp1/top

If you're looking to play dvds, cds, blurays (original or burnt) or directly from an usb stick or sd card and on top of
that want to connect your hifi stereo system all with just one sleek device made by an american company (at least used to be, dont know if they still are)
than look no further!

Can't wait for it to arrive next week.

Its not directly cheap but considering all it can do and being a quality product i'm ok with the price if it works as advertised!
(And for a long time! My VCR is from the 80s i guess.)

It can't play VHS tapes (can't have everything) but i got a quality old unit that i managed to hook up to the new tv which works just fine.
So in a few days from now i will be able play almost everything. :D

Looks pretty nice. I see a different array of sockets on the back to what we get here....but I guess it works well.

What do you guys get?
On the Audio part its cinch and xlr which i'm pretty sure both is a world standard.
HDMI video/audio i also think is a world standard.

We don't get the XLR sockets....I run a Panasonic DVD, and a Yamaha Receiver/Amp
Mostly RCA sockets, HDMI and RJ45 with Digital Optics.

Most people wont get XLR sockets since its a commercial standard not used on consumer devices normally.
But i stopped buying consumer grade stuff because it usually breaks down fast.

I was going to get an OPPO UDP-205 but prices have gone insane since they ceased production. :(

Why is that thing THAT expensive?
Upper end gear usually costs exponentially more. With stunning 4k detailing or the 2160 upscaled standard blue-rays - this player (all 22 pounds of it) gives some of the finest picture available if you have the monitor to appreciate it. But it also offers some of the best audio circuitry for music listeners, whether CD or other digital sources (192kHz/24-bit ALAC, AIFF, Ape, FLAC and WAV). Check out some reviews. In the audiophile world, the price is not out of line.

Why are '69 Chargers so expensive? Because some people want them that badly, and new ones aren't built any more. :)

I know high end audio equipment is expensive since im in that branch.
Not surprised that the same goes for video equipment.

I already noticed that when i was trying to buy some commercial equipment for digitalising vcr tapes with copy protection.
A really good vcr alone is 4 figures.

I know! Crazy. A few years ago you could get a non-professional quality dual player machine that would take a VCR tape and record it to DVD for $89. Now the same machine, used, is going for $900 because nobody builds new VCR machines any more. Glad I got two of them.

HDMI video/audio i also think is a world standard.

I think HDMI every time I'm stuck behind one of these....

Its already night in germany so i can't ask anyone to confirm before tomorrow.
But maybe there is a TV/Consumer electronics expert on this forum?

I got the DVD player today and it works great.
Connected it via. HDMI to the TV.

Only problem is the sound is distributed via. the internal speakers from the TV.
I planned on directly connecting the dvd player to my amplifier with a cinch cable and mute the TV when watching DVDs.
But i realised that this is a waste since i can't use my external speakers when watching TV instead of DVDs then.

The TV is a LG OLED55E8LLA.
It's got a SPDIF audio output in the back.

So my plan now is to use these three parts

https://www.thomannmusic.com/optical_kabel_1m.htm
https://www.thomannmusic.com/swissonic_converter_da_24_192.htm

to connect the digital spdif audio output from my tv with the analog cinch input of my amplifier.
Then mute the internal speakers of my tv in the settings.
I see no reason why it should not work but i'm normally not using optical interfaces so i would like to get confirmation before ordering this stuff.

The PS4 is great plus you can play games and is 1080p. The PS5 is 4k and can play games. I run mine into a 2 hdmi input sony sound bar. Send the video out to the 4k tv.

I just buy $20 BD players at thrift stores if one of my DVD/BD players pops.

I run them through my "vintage" 2 channel (and sometimes surround) receivers, most also under $40 from thrifts.

I almost picked up a Pioneer 80WPC surround receiver for $30 just the other day.
One of the last "gold button" models.
Don't really need a 4th system, but it's nice to have spares.

Just run the volume down on your tv when you select DVD on your receiver to watch movies and back up when you watch local tv broadcasts. I don't want 5 or 7 channel sound when I watch the news or somethings.

Or ask Steve @biomedtechguy . He worked in AV retail in a past life.

I already ordered this stuff.
I'm pretty sure it will work. But thanks for the link. :)
You asked for help with an audio problem. Look it up in the AV forum. It's like this forum but for audio video products. They don't sell anything.

I was just asking for someone to confirm that it works.
But since no one answered yesterday i already bought it to make sure i get it this week since i'm 99% sure it will!
