fuel pump pushrods

I've had a couple that have worn, but who else has been having trouble with them wearing? What do youz guys attribute it to; the rod being made of Chinesium, the camshaft, or using oil with no zinc?

I just bought a Comp Cams hardened one.

Throw that one in the trash too. Just kidding I don't remember the part numbers for the last 2 that went bad but they were both Comp Cams. 2 pushrods in probably 6 months. Edited because I spoke wrong. lol

You didn't mention which cam type you are using, but the bronze tip rods are only for the billet roller cams.

I was thinking wrong... No they were not bronze tip. But the same one RC just bought.

I have had the best results with a fuel pump push rod from stock motor and using a zinc additive.

In fact the one that I am currently running came from a 69 dated 440.

Bought a fancy hardened rod from Mopar Performance for my Hemi. Wanted to have all brand new parts.

It didn't last long.

Maybe the cams have something to do with it. My stock pushrod lasted about 1500 miles after I installed a Comp Cams cam. Replaced it with another stock one I had. We’ll see.

I reuse original FP pushrods with joe Gibbs driven racing oil.

What do guys think of take a the new push rod to a heat treater and have measure hardness on a Rockwell tester? Then induction harden the ends a couple numbers on the Rockwell C-scale?

Take an original one with you and have them match hardness to an original from the 1960’s.

All my big blocks reuse their original ones with no drama. I’ve never had a chewed up factory one. Maybe I’m lucky?

I’ve gone through a couple of stock oem rods. I heard good things about the ones from Hugh’s so that’s what I’m using now. Jury’s still out.

Comp and Mancini rods are both junk. Haven't tried a Hughes yet, but really doubt it is any better than the other 2. I gave up on all of the reproductions and only use originals now.

The last oil change I know for sure it got VR1 oil so hopefully that solves the issue. I do not know what he was using prior to the rod failure.

Don't use any of the new ones. Find a OEM one or a used one that measures 3.220 or very close. A Howard's that I bought only lasted 2,000 miles.
