Who has MOVED from their home state ? How difficult was it for you?

You guys are too kind. I made a self deprecating joke and you didn't run with it!
Ok, I'll play. You could move there and run for Mayor. You would be a shoe-in. :p

how long ago were you there? Istanbul specifically has ranked high on expat re-location lists for several years now. It's not what it used to be from what I understand. Weather is temperate, lots of culture. People I know who have been there the past 10 years rave about it. I've been to Japan many times, but it's almost as expensive as California. Panama has been in the top 5 for expat retirement for a long time now as well. Out of those OUS countries I listed, I've only been to Japan a few times, but not yet the others.
I retract my suggestion of Turkey. I was researching this with updated reports and it seems they were thriving around the mid-2000's, but 7 years ago had a coupe and in the last year the Turkish president has helped to massively devalue the local currency amid 20% inflation. Not a good situation...

A good place to visit, but not to live as an expat.

There was an attempted coup and Erdogan used that as an excuse to become a dictator. Economy went down hill and separation of church changed/ended.

This is going on 3+ years now too, since Dec 2018

moving is tough, but is it that tough ?

Even a complete culture & state changes
I've done it way too many times...
Eugene/Springfield Oregon, Springfield Mo. & Emmet/Bosie Idaho
Anchorage/Palmer Alaska was a total leap of faith,
I did love it up there, there's nothing like Alaska...

Except for the economy crashed, a glut of empty houses
property values went in the tank
& lil' to no work, in construction... or oil-fields
When almost everyone that came up (200k+) in the rush,
left (240k-ish) + more...

It made me move back to my home state, yet again...
It's a lot easier when your young for damn sure
& don't have such entrenched roots, in your native state...

Almost everyone here is from somewhere else now,
transients & transplants, almost all from points east usually too...

(I moved there/Alaska because my sister was stationed there
at Elmendorf AFB, she needed help with her kids, after her divorce)

USAF moved us 13 times to 3 continents. all 3 of our sons moved into a new High school for their senior year. No HS reunions in Northern Japan...i wish you luck. PS We live in Portland OR. yes that Portland. Liberals mean well...

I knew some guys, they always said, soon as they retire they will move and live where they want, do what they want, when they want.
Unfortunately they died before retirement. True story.
99% of the people I know that say they want to live elsewhere, don't because of the $$ they make where they are.
I admit I have made plenty of poor financial decisions in my life, but I know for a fact I have lived happier and poorer. But thats just me.

I will check that out once I get home. Thank you.

Missouri # 12, call me when you get here. I now see no sense in going to Kentucky, Georgia or Tennessee!! :poke::thumbsup:

If it snows much, I’ll never live there.
No offense, I just don’t like the snow for more than a short visit.

If I was a little younger and had a little more money, I would check out Poland and some of its surrounding areas.... Seems as if they want to PROTECT their citizens from what I read.. They might not let you in and you have to learn the COUNTRIES language ( isn't that a change) but I would give it a try...
A friend of mine has some orphanages in the Ukraine and spends about 6 month of the year there.. He loves Europe and has thought of moving there....

If that was directed to me, thanks but ...no.
With all my cars and parts, it would be silly to think I’d move overseas.
Plus, why would I leave America?!
