I currently have a stromberg ww2 in my 66 satellite 318(not a poly) and I am seriously considering swapping it over to a carter bbd carb. When going through looking for one to buy, they all say at least 67. I'm confident it is the original motor because the casting date is 65, yet theese carbs look like they would work perfectly. If there is something important I need to know before swapping over, please let me know. Thanks!

Out 67 Charger la 318 came with a Stromberg. Never really liked it. Changed to a Carter and had a improvement in mileage and performance. Still on the car 52 years later.

Are you sure you don't have a 273? The 318 was a poly through 66.

Poly’s were on some 67’s made in Canada.
A good friend has a Lynch Road 67 Coronet 440 with a poly, or as the build sheet refers to as a "Canadian 318" with hydraulic lifters.

I'm not saying it is not an LA 318, but if it is, it is not the original engine. The other possibility is that someone put LA heads on your poly block.

Did a bit of homework and the Vin says it was built in la
Someone please correct me if l am wrong. There should be a stamping on the front of the block, driver's side below the head that will tell you what you have. If it is a B-318 it is a 66, if another letter like C-318 that is a 67.

From what I am seeing, it looks like the easiest physical thing to spot between a poly and a la. Block is having the freeze plugs on the front of the block, I can't see if my car has them now; but I will be able to in the morning

I was under the same impression. Cleaned off the area below the head on drivers side, no stampings. Turned out it was on the passenger side leading edge of the head, stamped CC318 (Canadian 67 series).

Cleaned it off and it just says 318, no other characters
