Hughes Performance torque converters

I must say it is quite disappointing to never receive any email back from Hughes Performance.
Someone already mentioned they are hard to get a reply from, but how do they run their business if they even don't reply on a simple email?

Anyhow, I will hopefully be ordering a 24-30 converter for my car next month.
Now it is waiting for my new garage construction to be finished and get myself a 2 column lift in there to do this job the easy way.

Just another question regarding the 727 transmission input shaft.
Since I will pull the tranny, I want to rebuild it at the same time and tweak the valve body as well with an upgrade, both which can be done with TCI their rebuild kit.
As per my understanding an (early) 1969 A727 has a 24-spline input shaft, right?
I am looking at TCI their website on their Overhaul kits, there it says '62-'70 19-spline (non-lockup) for kit 128800, and for the '71-'79 24-spline for kit 128900.
This is opposite from what I know, maybe I got it wrong?
Build date code is 2534, 5th July 1968.

I know there is probably "better/stronger" kits out there but I am not a racer and I am a lot more limited on availability of choices then you guys on this side of the pond.
I might move over to CRT their stuff, incl. converter...need to see how that works out with price and shipping.

Not sure about Hughes, but many shops are running with minimal staff these days.

Hey guys,

Just looking for some people with experience with Hughes Performance torque converters.
I have tried to contact them 2x to get some recommendation for a torque converter for my car but have not heard from them.
Not sure they are closed or out of business?
Since i do not have the extensive options here in Europe as you guys across the water, i have a "local" shop that can supply Hughes Performance torque converters, from what i read across the board people seem satisfied with them as a good quality build with a decent price.
I am not a racer, just a street bandit that likes to take off as i stole it but also like the long cruises around towns, but the converter should be giving no load at idle to allow my engine to idle easy....low vacuum problem :)
It is for a '69 Coronet R/T (440/727), which is about... 3000-3200lbs?

I am a bit in doubt choosing between the HUP-24-25 and HUP-24-30, either the 2500 stall or 3000 stall version.
I am running a 238/244 @ .050", .572/.576" 283/291 adv. 108 LSA Hughes engines camshaft with currently a 4.10 rear diff, which i might change for a 3.73 in the future.

Anyone here using the above mentioned torque converters on a 440 B-body?
Could you please leave a comment on your experience with it and let me know what cam and diff ratio you're having as well for a comparison.
It's been a while since you posted this, just wondering if you followed thru with the Hughes tc and how it worked out.

I ran a Hughes 24-30HD. HD version has 7/16" converter bolts in lieu of smaller factory 5/16. Excellent converter. Tight enough on the brake and would rev and flash nicely to ~2800/3000 and locked up. My engine was a 440 sixpack with a Bullet SFT 244/[email protected] duration. .540 lift. Was perfect in my opinion. Car is a 70 Challenger R/T with 4:10 gears. Easy driver around town and mash the pedal and it would get right into the powerband and roast the tires and haul ***.

I went through with the 3000 stall Hughes performance converter, ordered at Summit.
It still applies some load on the engine at idle and it flash stalls to around 3800-4000 rpm, guess there is a little more torque in the engine than I assumed.
But it definitely is fast when it stalls at that speed, normal driving does not seem to cause too much slip as the transmission remains quite cool.
After some hard test driving to test my rebuild trans and after getting the car on the lift the pan seemed quite cool for what I just did to it.
I do have an additional cooler installed so it does get some more cooling than standard as well.

All in all not a bad converter, no regrets but if I had to redo it I would have got the 2500 stall with knowing this one stalls this high at WOT.

You might try FTI converters, their based in Florida. I got great service and pricing is good for the product they make.
