......holy crap.....I've got a persistent rattle in the back end while driving. It must be suspension related and its driving me nuts. I've checked everything 10 times and every item in the trunk has been removed.....spare, jack ect. Its defiantly a rattle and not a thunk. Sounds like loose tools bouncing around. Super weird.

Get someone to drive while you ride in the back seat.

Then again while you're in the trunk if necessary.

Exhaust hangers tight?

That way you can get a fore/aft fix on the location of the sound.

Body shops used to have them. I have been to a lot of automotive shop auctions, but never seen one, can't find any on google. what a surprise.

They had a vibrator that clamped to the frame and shook the car while it was stationary. Poor man's version: pull a plug wire and start the car.

I assume you checked way down between the trunk drop off and the rear quarters?

Upper shock mounting. Bolt will seem tight but not enough to pinch the shock bushing.

I have a squeaking sound in my trunk area that I cant find. It's not a rattle it's a squeak. If you figure out what yours is please share with us so I can eliminate that. Not sure I can trust my friends to drive me around in the trunk. We play to much. lol

...or your convertible top well or recess.

Harsh rattle? Most likely the shock mount....soft rattle? Check the leaf spring clamps to make sure they are tight. Is the rattle worse when driving over rough spots in the road? May be suspension related if so. And check all the various parts on the top lift mechanism to make sure everything is tight.

I had a super hard to find rattle in my 70.

Ended up being the drum brake springs came off inside the drum.

Had to let it idle across a parking lot and run beside the car to find the location it was coming from.

Brakes worked fine!

My original 66 Belvedere had a soft knock sound that would go faster as the car went faster until the car was going fast enough where it wasn't noticeable. Could hear it better while slowly driving next to a brick/block building in a parking lot. Turned out to be a cracked outer bearing race on the left front wheel. That was the only time that's happened to any of my cars.
