I don't see how you could prime the system using the slot on the intermediate shaft. It's geared to the camshaft.

You need to remove it and spin the oil pump directly.
So a 5/16 hex tool is required.

I made a priming tool out of 3/8 threaded rod by grinding and shaping one end. Some use an old distributor shaft.

OK I seam to think I could just turn the center shaft.. I didn't realize / think it was attached to the gear.. Makes scenes how else could the cam turn the distributor.... OK.. Not sure of removing the gear part?? Maybe I'll just fill the oil up thru the heads so it coats the lifter and runs over the cam?? They do have on them a High pressure lube on the lifters and their bottoms, with assembly Lube on the cam that came with the kit..

Set it at top dead center. Pull the gear out by twisting with screwdriver.
I've used a piece of hex in a 5/16 1/4" socket all taped together in a pinch.
Pump it up ccw
Set the gear as described in manual, or horizontal to the engine length wise

I've had a 5/16 hex piece of aluminum in my top drawer since the 80s

I use a paint mixer the paddles cut off, it was made from 5/16 hex.

Exactly. And ditto. (Mine is plenty long, made from 1/2", drill motor end turned down to 3/8)

I use one I got from Mancini, remember that all rockers and top end are lubed from a periodic opening in a cam bearing. If it’s not rotated correctly that side won’t show any oil

Thats what will happen to my old one. Make it toothless. I also have a stripped down A motor dizzy for the rest of it. Need to pop out the lower roll pin in it plus weld a 1/4" nut to the top of the shaft.
