4 Post Lift Installation Recommendations

Like that winch idea. One thing, is your lift bolted down or do you have to tie it to the building to use the winch. Mine isn't bolted down so I would have to tie the lift to the building. Maybe I just need to mount the winch to the building.
My 4-post is just sitting on the floor with a similar winch. It pulls cars up without moving at all, and that's up a small incline.

As long as the car is a roller, then the lift won't move if it's not anchored. I wouldn't recommend trying to drag a non rolling car up on the lift.

Did mine myself, it is a BendPak if it matters. I think most assemble about the same. Had it loaded onto a open car trailer and then when I got to the garage unpacked it piece by piece to get it off the trailer.
The photo above with the furnature dolleys is a good idea. We had used some Harbor Freight car wheel skates that were in the garage which makes moving the runways around pretty easy. We had an engine hoist, not even sure we needed it, but also used some saw horses to get under the runways to run the cables.
4-post is not anchored, and was pretty easy to assemble. Lubes the sheves and cables and adjusted the cables to level. After having the car on the lift the cables stretched a bit and had to re-level with the cable adkustments

I installed magnetic LED light strips on to my lift also. Don't ever need a drop light.
I did the same, it's amazing how well it lights up everything. I felt the LED's were too bright directly in my eyes, kind of like getting oncoming high beams at night. So I got some of this white plastic angle molding from Lowes and laid it down next to the LED strips. It works like a mini-diffuser and doesn't diminish how much they illuminate.

Im jealous

Unfortunately, My garage ceiling isnt tall enough to make a post a worth wile investment

I Googled the one that I wanted and believe or not I was able to get it from Lowes. It came in and I had them load it on my trailer. I’ll check but I’m not sure if they charged me any freight charges.
I looked it up and paid a total of $4152 for my 8000# HD lift which is longer and wider than the normal one. FYI, I won’t do that again. I did that so that I had more room to work under but the runways are so far apart that the car has to be centered perfectly in order for the jack tray to slide between the tires.

OK, I have wheels for mine so I can move it around. Will look under my work bench to see about winch location. Thanks
I lowered one of mine and put it on my car skates and rolled the whole lift forward so I could put another one in its place.

I have someone coming Monday to talk about putting in a backyard buddy or advantage. I know nothing about these things so it should be informative. I’m leaning toward the backyard buddy cause it’s taller and American made. Looks like $10k delivered and installed. Is that a decent price? That’s with no accessories. Another company (Lift Superstore) just reached out to me too. They have the Quattro. I know nothing about these things so any input would be appreciated.

10 grand US... are you nuts
Yes. They quoted (I chose the Wide Buddy). Is that a bad price for the lift? $1295 for freight and installation looked reasonable to me so I didn’t figure they were ripping me off on the lift price.
  • Wide Buddy Lift- $8,495
  • Advantage DX-9000 - $6,995
  • Installation (Includes freight, hydraulic oil, training) - $1,295
  • Service Charge - $37.50

Prices in Hawaii are Higher than most places in the mainland. I paid $7200 for my Rotory Revolution 4 post delivered and installed, but that was 10 years ago. Before buying I would recommend getting some quotes from other lift dealers/installers in your area. Just to make sure your not over paying.
But I will say, once you have your lift, you will realize it was well worth what ever it ends up costing you.

Thanks, I have another dealer I’m looking at too. $7200 10 years ago adjusted for today’s inflation is about $10k. I get a chuckle sometimes when people are still living in the past and haven’t grasped that things are way more expensive now than they were just a few years ago. I just paid $115 for a sterilite storage cabinet, that was $40 2 years ago.

I think it's a good price.

I paid $7200 in Hawaii while others in the mainland were paying 3800-4500 at the same time. I may not have made my point clearly. Point is, prices vary depending on what part of the country you live in. Best to to get some qoutes to make sure your not being over charged. But in the end a lift is worth the price.
I'm not living in the past, I know I couldn't buy the lift I have today for the same price.

I wasn’t directing that comment at you.

Isn’t the wide buddy one of the more expensive lifts? My research showed it was, and it’s US made.

I looked at the backyard buddy lifts, but they don't have a distributor here in Hawaii. They do seem to be a little higher priced then other brands. I looked at them at Carlisle and they are a nice lift.
I would also recommend to see if you can get a deal on a rolling bridge jack, alot of times dealers will give a discount if ordered when you purchase your lift.
I didn't buy one at first, you can get by without it, but it just makes everything easier.

I would also recommend to see if you can get a deal on a rolling bridge jack,
I was going to ask them about that. I wasn’t quite sure what the advantage over a floor jack was. Like I said, I’m new to lifts so I’m learning.

I do like that the wide buddy has 9 foot drive through clearance and 7 foot height clearance. I primarily plan on using it for car storage and the mostly driven car will go underneath.
