Drill Press?

My brother bought a Bridgeport, sight unseen, for $500. Well he shoulda looked because, it needed help. He give it to me and I have fixed it up, it only needs painted now.

Looking for something for occassional use. Wondering if the Harbor Freight stuff is good enough? I need to drill through some square steel tubing which I'll mount sway bar brackets too, like this -

I have had a Harbor freight drill press for 15 years always works well and does the job. I have a milling machine for the tough stuff.

I would instead recommend a good old used used one. Plenty of good used ones around for good prices.

How big do you want? I agree with a floor mounted one.
I have a FuManChu bench press in my engine assembly room and a 1940's vintage 21" drill press in my main shop... weighs about 400#'s!

I paid $50 for the Chicom one and $300 for the vintage one.

I got the job I needed done with a regular old drill, and a couple months later this puppy fell into my lap -

Anyone familiar with this brand/model?

HF is good and they have a 90 day full refund return policy so if you don’t like it take it back. Plus they have a lifetime warranty on all their hand tools. I’m not sure if a drill press is considered a hand tool, but I think it would be. I returned a pneumatic floor nailer well used when it finally gave up, and they gave me a new one.
Don’t hold your breath , hoping they will take Anything Back ….
I had to argue with them. . Reminding them of their advertising/ Warranty . All for a busted socket !
They around here want a receipt …..
This is Vegas / The Land Of The Take !
IMO of course ……

I had one of those... It's a drill press... Sold as a mill... Don't expect to actually do mill stuff with it... I found a real mill on C/L and sold my Mill/Drill for $150 less than I paid for the real mill... Yes the real mill takes up more space, but it actually earns it's place in my shop...

its both, But it doesnt have to be moved with a Forklift and will do a variety of milling operations. mine does Face milling, ruff cut, rounding, edgeing etc...it was more than enough to modify this crossram intake,,,and it also drills holes . do i wish it was a full on milling machine, of course but Most all Wont go under a std garage door and u will have to have a Fork lift to do it..This is the Alternative and its a good one..

Bigger is always better if you have the space. I use mine to compress the springs in clutch packs when working on transmissions.

Lots of good options out there. I got lucky and got one from my cousin as he didn't have room for it. It was my Uncle's and dates to the 40's. Zero runout and works like a champ.
