Bought from Classic, but you can get direct from Lares. 2.5 turns. No need to change steering column or pitman. Transformed the car, tho' the steering feels dead, and the new PS pump needs fast idle to cope at idle. I have only driven a few miles, but so far, I can recommend;

Shop charged me 4.0h to replace. $170 /hour Has different outlet to reservoir, so they needed a 90 deg adapter. Maybe Classic sells one...?

Changed my gearbox to a 15 to 1, I really don't remember what company but I also added a quick ratio steering arm which took it down to about 12:00 to 1:00. With the giant original steering wheel being about 4 ft across it was still the manageable. Good luck thanks for the info that's a good one with you don't have to change any other parts.

$170hr!?!. That's disgusting!

$680 for labor?
Why would you pay that instead of doing it yourself?

37 lbs? Stock is 34.

Probably 33.5 lbs minus the rust and dirt. :)

OP - What is the wheel effort like with the new box?

Just to be clear, a standard PS OEM box is 3.5 turns?

Wheel effort is noticeably higher, and feel is dead, but I still like the ratio. I don't know the exact normal ratio.

Thanks

Define if you could "dead" a bit in this context.

edit: there is no wrong answer here, and it's not a gotcha question.

I think i would also say stiff, compared to the loose standard feel. It might be the same as the firmer rebuilds. I like it so far, and will comment further.

Stiff is I suspect more acceptable then dead, so keep us updated.

Look and see what Rock Auto is charging for these boxes and see if Classic Industries will meet the price. You have nothing to lose in asking.

Have about 15 miles or so on it. It's for sure more effort to turn than the old, over powered unit, but I also have new components in the rest of the steering too. Since my daily driver for 20+ years was my 04 Cummins 2x dually with r&p, I'm used to a heavy feel. That being said, it's less than the truck and I like it. Going to solidify[ weld] my sway links in a bit so that will be functional too. Going to get some miles on it so all the new components get settled in, then have the alignment re-checked. New springs, 1.06 bars, Bilsteins, bigger brakes etc. I did find out that the thrust angle is off on the lh side by 1/2" to the front. Going to take care of that before the recheck. I'll give more feedback in the next couple of days as I get more seat time in.

Interested in the looseness and play off center.
And the overall precision of it.

You made a lot of other cool upgrades too, I bet it feels like a totally different car.

So far it's a massive change. I started with the SFC's first and noticed a big change with just those.
